I received a 12x Unertl Ultra Varmint scope today that I got off from eBay.  The seller description read in part.

"Standard crosshair reticle. Please note that the crosshairs appear a bit “bent” or wavy. Because of this, scope is being sold as-is."

A unique solution to crosshair replacement.  I think I will use some thinner wire.

Thanks,
I have wire also and have replaced crosshairs a few times.  I have a large selection of very small screws that came out of cameras years ago when I was doing camera repair.  It would make it quite a bit easier to have the screws, although I have done Lyman ones without them. I made a fixture for 3/4" tubes that hold the crosshairs perpendicular (using screws) while I super glue them to the carrier.

what did they use as replacement wire? it almost looks like they used a paperclip for the wires.
I have a feeling that camera screws may not work as I am guessing they are all metric. I would contact bob seipp <old.scopes@gmail.com> to see if he has the right screws. my guess is he will.

I recently bought a 10 Fecker scope from an auction site with a description saying that the crosshairs were so thin that they were hard to see.  They are the finest wires I have ever seen that are supporting a central dot.  The wires are nearly invisible.  I tries using the scope with a large black bull at 100 yds and could not see them at all.

Thanx for posting that picture, it gave me a good laugh!
I thought this stuff only happens to me. Many ebay sellers are less than reputable, but I believe most are item “ignorant” in cases like this. The seller was probably clueless but did know that something wasn't quite right.

The seller knew there was an issue and priced the Unertl accordingly.  In fact if he did not have such a low but it now price it may have gone for double what I got it for.  Double the price and a $130 repair by Iron Sight Inc for example still would have been a fair deal.
