That cleaned up rather nicely. Have a question and that is I didn't know the 22lr bore and a hornet bore were compatable. How much difference is there?

The little that I looked up about the 22 Hornet is that most early barrels were 1-16 twist like a 22 Long rifle.  The bullets that manufacturers sell that are targeted at the 22 Hornet are usually .224 i diameter.  Here is one that I am going to try next.

Early 22 Hornets were .223 diameter, as opposed to the .224 diameter  currently used. Not everyone changed at the same time. I have a Winchester model 54 @ .223 from the 30"s, and my brother has a Savage 219 from the late 40"s still @ .223. The first Hornets were built on 1903 Springfield 22 rimfire rifles, and I think they were .223 also.

I had an early Savage that didn't know the difference between 223s and 224s, shot both sizes very well.

So far the .224 Hornady VMAX is shooting the best.  My recent attempt with cast bullets using Unique was a failure.  Velocity was all over the map.  I need to use a powder that meters better me thinks.

My old Sako didn't care one way or another in regard to bullet size, but it sure favored the little round-nosed bullets to the pointy ones meant for other rounds. My biggest gripe was fairly short brass life from sizing the cases in the apparently 'generous' chamber. Also had at one time a .22wcf that I simply fed plain ol' Hornet loads and all was fine in that rifle.

22 Hornet brass is notoriously thin, shallow shoulder, and early rifles with front lugs only, all contribute to case stretching and ultimate separation. Thin we are stuck with, but opening chamber to K Hornet made a world of difference with Savage rifles I owned early on. With that accomplished, neck sizing only helped with later rifles. I have a C Sharps 1875 in K Hornet that neck sized last much longer. It seems that where there is a need, help can be found. I heard that PPU brass is somewhat thicker, but have not been able to try it yet.

did most of those things, it just preferred the round point bullet. matters not at all since each of those rifles are long gone.  I was happy to let 'em go, never a big market for tiny calibers around here. well, more recently, but back in the day, no.
