Any Word from Asheville?

The old Western Carolina SV for years shot at the Asheville R&P Club, right across the road from the French Broad River that’s been in all the news.  Has anybody here heard from any of the Western Carolina crowd?  I tried e-mailing Stevens 52 but no response yet.  Undecided

I have friends in Asheville who I heard from this morning. They have no power or water, but they're otherwise OK. If the range is near the French Broad that's not good.

I texted with John Bancroft, ASSRA President.  Here is his reply

"...Very Blessed.. No damage to cars or structures .  Hours of saw work to get a passable road. Getting gasoline is difficult. Anticipating several weeks without power. Whole area is decimated. Anything near waterways is simply gone...."

I think he lives about 20 miles from Asheville

Refreshed my memory of the Asheville club with a look at Goggle Earth. It’s below the Blue Ridge Parkway. Above the French Broad River. Water uphill on the East side of the parkway will run down to the French Broad. Dont see any creeks or routes its likely to follow near the club. Tree cover on the satellite view could be hiding something though.

My guess is damage limited to trees on club property. The French Broad drains a very large area and goes right through Asheville.  Most of the news reports and Utube videos show damage from it in the city.

Good to hear John is OK.  I tried e-mailing him as I had no phone number to text.  I won’t bother him now as I’m sure he’s busy with chain saw, etc.

Thinking about the range, as I recall, the driveway into the range starts about 10-20 feet above the normal level of the French Broad River, then goes up at least another 20 feet or more above that level before it dips back down about 10 feet or so at the range itself... it’s pretty hilly there.  I’ll keep my fingers crossed!  Undecided
