U.S. Post Office Accountability

Substitute Postal Worker delivered our mail, hit the mail box and left it in the street. They drove off as I watched through my window.

Not Single Shot specific but I thought you might get a laugh out of this. Meanwhile, I have to locate my fence post digger.

When I was working at the county road dept. in Steamboat Springs, CO.
I had a rancher call and said that the grader operator had knocked his mailbox over, then backed up to clear the snow  out of the drive.
The rancher said he was not mad until he backed up and took off with the mailbox under the mold board.
When the operator got in I told him what happened he did not realise what  had happened.
The county bought  a new mailbox and the operator  installed the new mailbox.
When spring came  the ranchers wife brought the shop a platter of home made cookies.

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly. My post man is one of the good, he goes the extra mile, he brings packages to the door even though he  could just leave them at the box, if I am working in the yard he always speaks and smiles. I leave a gift card from Target every Christmas for him, but I don’t think that is why he goes the extra mile, he is just that type of person you meet occasionally.

A new hire delivering to my RFD route in S.C. was fired for knocking down numerous mailboxes. You need to report this to the USPS branch he/she drives for, it could be the final straw.

From the looks of the wood on the bottom of the post I'd say that the driver just gave it the cou de gra. That 4x4 was rotted almost clear through.

You need to file a police report.  I came home from a match on Sunday to see a wrecker backed up by my neighbors driveway hooking up a postal vehicle that had hit their stone mailbox.  Looks like the truck is totaled.  Wrecker driver waited about 45 min for a trooper to show up to do the report.  In Texas, cops are required by law to fill out a report.  We had a similar issue with our mailbox, a 18 wheeler backed into it.  We had it on camera and when the trooper showed up he tried to BS my wife saying he did not have to fill one out.  She told him what the law said, he responded, are you a cop?  She said yes!

Hawke is correct the base of that 4x4 is completely rotted to a degree that a person could push it over. Not fungal rot but what appears to be freeze-thaw deterioration. Exposed end grain at the butt end sucking up water, freezing and breaking down grain structure of the wood. After years of this cycle the post just breaks down.

When living in NH years ago the smaller towns in big snow events couldn’t handle the loads with their truck plows. The state roads could run enough teams to keep their roads clear but small towns had to bring in the graders most of which were privately owned contractor machines. Nothing stops a grader, but running one as I did one bad Winter was a headache with mail boxes. An Austin Western 200 six wheel drive grader can clip off mail boxes without even knowing it. Postal inspectors would come out after the storm to make sure your box was legally 41-45” off the edge of the road. Not sure how they figured gravel roads ?

Was not going to say anything but looks rotten to me too. I had a mail box that rotted out PO gave me notice must replace . Sisters mail box same thing rotten.

Ended up going to two bullet proof boxes. 3 inch steel pipe with a box shaped steel bracket big enough to hold the rolled newspaper. Mailbox on top typical style but extra heavy duty sheet steel. Car hits it they will come out the looser Truck could cause damage.

Brother in law asked how much his was going to cost. Told him “don’t know but your paying for both installed “ didn’t use concrete want it to push over if hit.

My Wife and I went to the local UPS office to ship a package this morning. They have now closed their receiving / pick-up counter and had a sign in the front window saying to drop off packages at the local Staples Office Supply Store. Also in the front window was a sign saying, no guns allowed also, NO GUNS SHIPPED. ALSO, NO GUN PARTS SHIPPED. I am not saying this necessarily means they are speaking for all UPS offices but, that's the way it is in Kokomo Indiana anyway.

Last week I had a Stevens model 41 pocket pistol shipped to me using my C&R ffl via FedEx, since I wasn't going to be home I wanted them to hold the package for me to be picked up at Walgreens, since the Walgreens is nearby. I received a call from FedEx that Walgreens could not accept the package due to being a hazmat package, then I was asked if the package contained hazardous materials. I simply said no and I didn't say the package contained a firearm, I was able to sign and pick up the package at Walgreens then.
