Its Shooters World Buffalo Rifle.  It takes a couple of grains more to match velocity of 5744.  It shoots good. Only issue is that it heats the barrel just like 5744 does.

I see 5744 for sale here and there but Shooter's World Buffalo seems to have fallen off of the earth.  When I couldn't find any a few years ago I bought 8 pounds of 5744 and have been pleased with it from my 30/40 to 50-70 and a bunch in between.  Tom

I believe I had written a post on here that mentioned that.

Back when Accurate Powder was an independent company they were just a distributor. They purchased their powder from Explosia in Czech Republic. After Accurate was bought by Hodgdon they sourced their powder instead from a manufacturer in Belgium.

Shooters World, which also just a distributor, sources their powder from Explosia. So I believe SW’s Buffalo Rifle formula is the same as Accurate 5744 just by another name.

One can download from SW’s website a data sheet that feeds into the Quickload software that calculates internal ballistics. I note the constants (heat release, burn rate, density) for Buffalo Powder are identical to the values listed for 5744.

One thing point out or caution (in my opinion) is that 5744 burns at a higher temperature than many other powders. This is because it has a higher nitroglycerin content for a double-based powder. IMR powders on other hand are strictly nitrocellulose (single base). I believe this higher burning temperature could lead to faster erosion of the bore. So I choose to avoid it in my most precious rifles and stick to the cooler burning single-base powders.

4198 is still around and available, and is good for the same cartridges. And it's not a double base powder so I like it more.

there are several other powders in the burning rate of
5744 in addition to 4198.  (note that the stick powder 4198 can be less compatible with powder measures what with its long sticks.
Lil Gun,Re 7 and 4227 come to mind and they are all fine and meaure well. Also 1680 is in the burn rate , too.

I used IMR4198 for decades until it disappeared. Called Hodgdon and tech said H4198 was almost identical and could use the same load data unless I was loading to max pressures. I'm not so I kept the exact same load and got the same accuracy. Didn't run them across my Oehler, but I think they're a bit slower with H4198 because when I shot the same sight settings at 650 yd. to 1000 yd. I had to raise my sights for both distances a fair amount.
Now I see H4198 is unavailable, and IMR4198 is all they have. Tech told me they hadn't made H4198 in two years, so I bought 8 lbs. of IMR. Go figure.

From what I’ve read online when Hodgdon used to source their H4227 from a source in Australia and at that time IMR sourced their IMR4227 from a plant in Canada. After Hodgdon bought IMR they stopped  procuring IMR4227 from their Canadian source and rather just labeling their Australian powder as IMR4227 and discontinued the less popular H4227 line. So how one defines H4227 vs IMR4227 is a bit vague. I wonder if something similar happen too with 4198 powders.
