Rifle is a CPA 44-1/2, from Gail. I see a lot of IMR4227 loads around ~17-grns, but no equivalent for this old powder.

All of my single shots shoot one tiny ragged hole with cast bullets ... it's just the following shots that tend to open up my groups Wink ...

An old target load from the '80's is 18.5 gr, with a 280 - 290 gr bullet.

Member Bob Fitzgerald, formerly posting as FITZ used to shoot a 38-55 high wall when he came down here to VA to compete.  One of the powders he frequently used was IIRC was 4759 as well as 4227. I think he currently posts as “Old Tuck”.  Perhaps he’ll see this and chime in.

Thanks all!

Yes I have manuals, ... but I guess I was hoping someone would have QuickShot and could give me an equivalent charge of 4759 to meet the 4227 load.

There is hardly ant difference in 4759 and 4227 burn rates. At our pressure range, you can use 4227 at the same weight as 4759 and get the same velocity with in about 1% or less..

Because it's not coated, primers make a difference with 4759 but, 4227 doesn't care much, which primer you use.

Like others 38/55 I use the same weight charge 4227 or 4759 and a 255 gr cast bullet  Very little difference in point of impact. My notes gave it 1 moa. Probably more difference between lots and the 3 places of manufacture with 4227 than 4227-4759 same vintage same source.

17 grs is what I use either Powder.
