I just came across this Ballard No. 4 1/2 Mid Range on gun broker and about fainted at the starting bid! I had to read the description to see if was owned by Marlin himself or?? Nope just a low serial number Mid Range. what do y'all think?

I think the condition of this #4 1/2 surely doesn't merit a $10k rifle. If it was minty it certainly could get $10k as these #4 1/2 Mid-Range rifles are some of the nicest Ballard rifles Marlin ever made. And they're also fairly rare, so you don't see them go for sale often, or see them at even big gun shows for sale often.
I think the seller really doesn't want to sell this one as I can't imagine anyone paying his starting price.

I gave less than half his starting price for my 4 1/2 with a perfect bore, and much nicer condition.

They're very addicting! Once you have one, and begin to watch for them you can't stop.

I can attest to that! I now look for all the different models and options, thank you for all you have done for not only myself but the vintage rifle enthusiast around the world.

Glad I can help. Not sure how much of the rest the world I've helped?

I had about 150 pre WWI era Marlin repeaters when I thought my collection of Marlins needed a Ballard. I bought the first one for under $300, a very sad Ballard #2 in .38 Long. I fixed it up a little and soon found a nicer #2 and sold that first one. That was about 45 years ago, and I soon was down to less than a dozen repeaters, all replaced by various Ballard models all by Marlin.
I'm closer to having all I want, but still have some on my list to add to the collection.

It is not a bid. It’s what the seller requires as a starting bid/point/price.

About $8000 above what would be a good starting price. Looks like it has been beat around a bit.
