Didn't know there was a difference? Unless you're talking the latest version that Winchester started using that's the same length as their .375 Win. chamber?

Here's one at Ebay on a "buy it now" sale:

IIRC...I believe the Maynard Rifle co.
designed a number of the, by today's standards, "oddball" cartridges, 35-40 & the 35-55 being just two of them.

I understand when Dan Theodore was leading the charge to get the NRA to approve the 35-40 for use in the BPCR discipline he was met with a lot of resistance.

Apparently both of these cartridges were designed and commercially available in 1882 albeit not in very successful numbers. I don't recall all the challenges and responses that went back and forth way back but I think, and someone please correct me if I am wrong, I think the 35-40 can be used in BPCR..?

I heard one of the reasons used by some contest directors to not permit, what they characterized as a 'mouse cartridge' was the lower "power factor."

Anyone remember...? Ferris..?

I have a .35-40 Darr barreled Rolling Block setup for benchrest and breech seated ammo. It is the old Maynard chamber, and it took some work to make .32-40 cases fit the chamber. Fortunately it being a breech seater it doesn't need a bunch of brass made for it.

Gunsmith Mike Lewis fitted and chambered a 35-55 to a
Browning BPCR that I have. He originally did this for Dan Theodore. Then Mike rebarreled the rifle to 38-50 Rem Hep.
I have been working with the 38-50 ever since I acquired it.
I really like it.
Don't know if I will ever actually refit and shoot the 35-55 barrel. It is perfect, blued full octagon profile to fit the BRG.
I am thinking to sell this barrel.
