Non-sliding scope?

I am looking for a scope to put on a Marlin 1893 that would look period correct but not slide in the mount so it must be reset for following shots. I would like something short like MVA's "B" but that one slides as does the Hi-Lux short scopes. I would take a long Hi-lux with the fixed from end like the old Malcolms but I don't like the Hi-Lux models with brass ends. Any suggestions?

If your rifle is not in 7.62 and you can't hit what you are aiming at with de-linked machinegun ammo you are a pretender.

Why don't you just use a recoil spring on the scope?

I would contact MVA and explain your need. They are very accommodating and should be able to supply two stops with a scope to lock it down. Not sure of the cartridge for your 93, and you might also ask them if their scopes will withstand the recoil if locked down. I am sure they will. I am not sure, but believe the 38-55 would generate the most recoil. I am sure you can find a solution to your dilemma. Sure shot's solution is probably the simplest as long as you compress the spring tight enough to preclude movement and still look correct. Should work!

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Wollensak slides also. As will almost any old or new scope.

I'd look into buying a Junior Targetspot with the recoil spring Sureshot mentioned as it will avoid hammering the crosshairs, and return on it's own.

I hope that 1893 is already been drilled and tapped by someone for a scope! Otherwise it would be a shame to D&T it now.

I seem to remember Jim Gier telling me years ago that they (MVA) were putting the cross hairs on a Lense by etching, or laser or some permanent method directly onto glass instead of the traditional way. If that is so, I'm sure those scopes would handle recoil better in a solid mount.

The problem of the durability of the cross hairs is only half the recoil problem.

The other half is the short eye relief. If the spring is locked down tight on a heavy recoil rifle, scope eye can be a real possibility.

I had an RHO on a C. Sharps in 45-100 and had not issues with "Scope Eye". Unfortunately they are no longer available...

The 1893 is in 30-30.

It would seem that if MVA uses an etched reticule that would satisfy your requirement to not have scope slide and not and need to reset  and have a scope robust enough to hold up to 30-30 recoil. As far as eye relief problems, avoid prone, stock crawling, and be aware. Without looking, I would think MVA took that into consideration. Again, run all this by them for answers to your questions.
