Don't the bench rest guys use a square or box printed on the target as their aiming point?  And have their sights adjusted so that the bullet hits the center of the bull?

I often shoot a bullet off to the side of the bull for use as an aiming point. This way I don't need a bunch of pasters or need to bring the target in to change to the next group. Of course with each added shot my "aiming point" may grow....

If your rifle is not in 7.62 and you can't hit what you are aiming at with de-linked machinegun ammo you are a pretender.
