Shooting the Milbank-Ansley 10.4x38mm

I’ve had this rifle sitting in my collection for at least 35 years and never shot it.  I got the bug to take it for a test ride. First I had to make some cases that would accept an off set .22 blank as this is a rimfire.  The cases worked great but wow, I’m not sure if somewhere in its past life someone messed with the chamber or if that was the way it was chambered when it was converted from a muzzleloader. I used the same 300 grain bullets I use for my Swiss vetterli and 45 grains of 3F black powder.  I attached a couple of pictures of the before and after fired cases. Any comments about the chamber especially from other 10.4 x38mm Milbank-Amsler shooters.  The old ones are fun!!

Here you go. I’m at my daughters. These are on my phone, let me know what other shots you’d like to see.

I did a chamber cast and the chamber is what it is. I also looked at it via a bore camera and it all looks original. I may be able to extend the neck by a tenth of inch if I make additional brass.  Other then that I loaded my 8 cases and will post the results as soon as I get to the range.  We’ll see.

My .303 Brit. No. III Enfield does similar things to the brass. May be a European/British design feature from the late 19th/early 20th century?

50 grains of 3F with 300 grain .426 cast lead bullet and the .41 Swiss “Improved” cases. Not bad for a 76 old blind guy.  At least there is plenty of room for improvement!!
