Badger barrel

I found a Hepburn with a Badger Barrel on it. Finish on rifle is original but barrel finish is a matte black. It appears to be identical to the finish on my brothers Browning BPCR Badger barrel.
Did Badger do rebarrels themselves when in business and if so does anyone know what finish they applied?
I wouldnt mind having it rust blued if it is chrome moly.
Thank you

I believe Badger fit and chambered very few barrels themselves as Ernie Stallman needed "all hands on deck" just to keep up with raw barrel blank production. Likewise, I doubt it is stainless steel as Badger rarely made anythjng but chromemoly. Your barrel's finish is likely just a deep black sand or bead blasted matte blue finish.

I had several discussions with Ernie Stallman when writting the book on the Browning BPCRs. What jk16 said is spot on.

Whenever I see that... bead blast, hot blue. Ugly, completely inappropriate for a SS. I wouldn't even want that on a prone HP rifle ... which would have a SS barrel anyway
