Only know that I traded emails with him, letting him know that a lot of boys' rifles won't fire converted .17 WSM brass, it being thicker and harder than the old stuff so as to handle the high pressure .17 WSM load.  (Ask me how I know.)    I asked him what his powder charge is, but he didn't answer.

Load data is on the box now.

Given the amount of work that goes into converting the 17 WSM, that price might be justifiable, but he's not getting any takers.  That listing has been there for months.

Try to find an old Ideal 25720 mold. It's basically the same as the Lyman 257420 without the gas check. Mine is marked 25720 67.

The 25720, is a multiweight mold and can be from 46 to 96 gr.

I keep meaning to post this.
Someone selling “new 25 rimfire” on gun broker. Converted 17 WSM.
Definitely not mine, and I have no idea who he is. Maybe someone here does?

did you see the mashed  noses on the bullets?

He did say they were custom.  You have to expect to pay extra for a paper punching nose like that!

Interesting that someone is making these, although quite pricey.  Testing of my own .17 WSM conversions showed unreliable ignition in my #4 rolling block. The small mainspring and lack of hammer mass just don't have enough kick for the thicker brass used in the .17 WSM case. I would expect the same result in other small boys rifles.  I made this video a few years ago showing this, and other options.

I told him this, which is why he has a caveat in his listing.

I have actually had no problems I’m my Favorite.
I wonder if it might be certain manufacturers?

Another issue that we all have come up against is split necks when expanding.

During the deepest depth of the latest ammo shortage, I bought a couple boxes of Hornady. Converted all but 2 without a problem, one of those was absolutely operator error. These were certainly a fresh lot.

I then found what I thought was a great deal on some Federal and was losing maybe 50%. What I noticed with the Federal was a few bullets would be easy to pull. A closer look showed that probably 5-10% had split necks sitting in the box. The lot number indicated about 5 years old.

A bit of research and it seems that the 17WSM has a shelf life of a year or two for this reason. Federal in particular is a known problem. The 17 HMR seems to also have problems.

Just something else to keep in mind if you are going to convert.

I have several Favorites in .25 RF,  none of which will fire the converted Federal .17 WSM more than maybe 20% of the time.  A Marksman hardly even makes a mark on the rim.  The only 25s I have that will fire it reliably are Model 44s and a rare Model 83 bolt action.

I bought six boxes at an auction.  My experience with them was so bad that I worked up a way to anneal the necks without setting off the primer.  Basically a little rotating cup full of ice water.  I expanded them in 4 steps, annealing twice.  Tedious PITA.   Still have two boxes to go, but I'll probably never do 'em.  Converting .22 Hornet works a lot better for me.

The old factory .25 RF ammo can still be quite accurate if in good condition & that 65 gr bullet with a 17" twist is fine for fox hunting accuracy out to 75 yds. This HW has a #2 barrel with a .257" groove. I was lucky enough to pick up another 2 boxes of the CIL 1970's ammo on the weekend (Aus$ 110 = USD 72) and that is probably enough to keep me going for a few more years   Smiley.

Clint,
If you would like to try the heavier 65gr bullets, I have some from an old Winchester mold cast at 1/10 alloy. This is what my 25-20SS low wall likes with its 1 ln 12 twist barrel. I could let you have 20 or so.

Just send me a PM.

If you are breech seating with the .27 caliber power loads, use caution since the brass is short it's easy to slip the round past the extractor and jam the rifle. I've also find the power load's propellant quite dirty shooting.
