25-20 WCF yes or no?

A couple of newbies to Schuetzen at our club are wanting to do the quarterbore thing and as the old timer I would like to help. However, my experience is limited in the 25 calibers. They read about it and think the 25-20 SS is the way to got. But with brass and stuff being as it is I keep thinking 25 WCF would be the way to go. Case capacities seem similar. They plan to breech seat. Also twist rate. I see 12 as being reasonable. But think of this as a set up for someone who wants to keep it relatively easy so don't need to take it all the way to the edge with super heavy bullets etc.

Thank you,
Charles

Never owned one, but have seen two that shot bug-sized groups. I'm talking about the .25 Hornet.
Seems like brass might be a little easier to locate than the other pair you have mentioned. I may be wrong, but wouldn't be the first time.

Another vote for .25 Hornet.

Accurate 1680 is the powder of choice.

I would go for the Hornet, 25/20 WCF brass is a real pain, not just finding it or paying the price. Thin, inconsistent, brand to brand too.

Compare the case capacity’s all 3 potential 25’s not much different.

If wanting to go traditional, I would stay 25-20wcf. I like hornet but not traditional. 25-SS just to hard to find and expensive. I own all three and all are shooters.

When I asked Ken M. several years ago about shooting a 25 Hornet in the Quarterbore Match @ Etna Green, he said no… at that time only traditional, original cartridges were acceptable.  I don’t know whether that is true @ EG currently, and of course local clubs have their own rules.  Personally, I like the old 25-20 SS, but brass is a real challenge!

Breech seating so no problem with brass. Only need a few cases. Will last for years.

Would 25-20 WCF be considered traditional by most matchs?

And my aversion to 25-20 SS is if someone decides they want to go fixed ammo for offhand it would be rough where 25-20/32-20 WCFbrass is often available (it was only a year ago I bought a dozen bags of 32-20WCF at the local Fleet-Farm for $15 each).

25-20 WCF is indeed a traditional cartridge.
