High wall question

I recently bought a Highwall musket in 22 LR. It’s late production (1920) by the Madis book. Are these rifles supposed to eject empty’s? I ask because I noticed an ejector spring on the DZ web sight. My rifle pulls the case about half way out. I have no experience yet with the coil spring version so I haven’t taken it apart to investigate. 
I’ll appreciate your insight.

The one I owned would eject the cases with a spring loaded ejector.  If you remove the forearm you should see where it goes.  I just bought a low wall sporter and the spring is broken I have to make or buy one.  Wish I had not traded it away years ago. Charlie
