MVA "B" Winchester Scope?

I sent an email to MVA asking about the difference between one intended for a center hammer and one with a side hammer but haven't heard back from them yet. When you order one from their website you must make a selection. Can anyone tell me the difference?

That's interesting.   I bought one years ago and there was no such choice, but then I order my stuff over the phone when dealing with MVA.

I can't imagine what the difference would be, but it will be interesting to find out.

Chris.

I can't imagine the scope is offset for a side-hammer nor do I think the center hammer mount is higher. Truly a curiousity....

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Side hammer action mounts have a small offset as the adjustment for windage can put the tube close to the hammer and make cocking the hammer a little tougher if you had to dial in much windage towards the hammer.

Thanks Val.  I don't remember if my B5 was ever mounted on any of my Sharps rifles, I think just Win 1885's and CPAs, but it has no offset.

I do shoot with a few guys that use B5's on their Shilohs.  I'll have to ask them if their mounts have any offset.

Chris.

Mine was mounted on a No. 1 Rolling Block (center hammer with tall Swedish spur) with no problem.

I don't think that all MVA B  scope mounts have offset, as you'd need to order them that way. And for anyone who shoots very far you wont need the offset as your rear mount will be elevated high enough to not need it.
I have a friend who uses one on his Shiloh and doesn't have any offset to give clearance to the hammer. Think this would be more for 200 yds. or less one might like a little clearance?

More drop in a RB than in a 74 Sharps?

I think the hammer is lower on that Rolling block than a Sharps, and since the Roller is a center hammer offsetting the mount wouldn't change access to the hammer better.

I'll throw my two cents in on this. I believe the center hammer mounts are taller than the side hammer. Scope really needs to be in the center of bore for best performance.
