ASSRA Shooting Events Information.
Feb 9th, 2024 at 9:19am
Print Post
Is there a place on the forum that people talk about the shooting events through ASSRA.

What equipment is used,
do people make their shooting sticks.
Do they buy them
Where or who do you buy them from.
Bullet molds
any thing to do with what one needs to get into shooting these matches.

There is an answer to all the questions you ask. All you have to do is become a member of the ASSRA and you will start receiving the Single Shot Journal. This is the official magazine published for all members of the American Single Shot Rifle Association and it is a very Hi-grade publication!. The magazine is full of adds for all types of supplies and information about our shoots then, there is the association library listing which has more information about shooting in ASSRA matches and History about the ASSRA than you can imagine.
So yes, everything is out there, all you need to do is, get your membership.

I'am a new member.

I think it would just be nice to have that information on the site here, for those who want to know everything in "How To"

People get excited when they discover something new
and because the association is preserving the shooting sport something to let people know here is what you need to join any event I would think would be nice, informative.

The Match Scores often lists competitor's equipment.

In the announcement section you will a fair amount of information you asked for . Some of the shoots scheduled and events. The rule book that defines the firearms used, match rules and such. These are the permanent threads at the top.

Here are the rules from a link there

Search under ANNOUNCEMENTS > IMPORTANT TOPICS and read over the Rules for an idea of what you can use. After attending a match and looking over the accessories/accoutrements you’ll get an idea why the “all and everything’s” are not listed here.

Thanks for this information.

This is helpful to me, and I appreciate it.

I'm just wondering why, if were a society to preserve a shooting sport, then why are we not making every effort possible to let people know "How".

I'm not putting anyone down, or this Organization by any means.
I'm glad I was told about ASSRA, I'm glad to be here, I'm glad to be a supporting Member.

I'm just pointing this out from my perspective of wanting to learn, wanting to gather information as anyone that is new, we want to know, we want to learn.

Teach early, give information readily.

Don't make it where you need to wait for the publication to come out, or ask 20 questions, when it's clear that we came here, because we want to know.

I think at this point on a marketing level if nothing else, give them (Newbies "Everything they want to know.
But not by having to search for it, in areas we don't know where to look yet.

Guy's I think you're missing the point here.
It's not look this up, or that up, or go to this part of the forum or another.
Go to an event.

I appreciate what you're telling Me"

But I'm referring to anyone coming onto the home page
to be able to see what were about, how to get involved
without searching every aspect of the site, that still doesn't tell someone how to start off.
Or asking 20 questions in 45 different spots in the forum, and having no clue where to start asking, on what part of the forum.

I'm again just pointing out, "it would be nice to have a general over all introduction on how to become a supporting member and a shooter at any upcoming event.

So "Not" about me as an individual, but again for anyone new who stumbles upon this site.

The current issue has results from recent medium and long range shoots with the rifle each shooter used, the caliber, the barrel with twist and length, the load, the bullet, the lube, the cleaning method, etc. 10 Minutes of reading would answer almost all the questions you have been asking and would show you why there is no one easy set of answers to your questions. By the way, it will also show that few of the shooters are using rolling blocks;-) There is also a long article by a very good shooter about how he loads and tests. Join the ASSRA and ask to be sent this latest issue.

Assumption:. I just joined, I have yet received a magazine.
And if you were to read the post.

It's talking about having something up like a short video that tells folks who we are, what were about and how to get started.
Because AGAIN if you had read the post, to understand for a new person either stumbling across the website, or being directed here by someone, no one knows where to go, which forum to place questions on.

So Again, this wasn't about me as much as  an observation of what could help.
"Can't READ!!! something i don't have in hand.

Sadly most members are not savvy at promoting the single shot rifle although there a few YouTube videos that help explain or sport and passion, here’s one;
(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

Now, be reminded that was the game at the start of this association but now most shooters are geezers like me and only shoot from the table which ASSRA obliges. That and the collectors, gunsmiths and even historians all contribute to our association. Hopefully you will hang around and join in on the fun and one day make a youtube video that does explain us in full, we need your involvement.

RBHead,
I'm sorry but I have led you astray (but in the direction you have wanted to go). I was alternating reading two magazines and the information I noted was not in the ASSRA Journal (which is fantastic by itself) but in the Black Powder Cartridge news, specifically the winter edition which should be available on any good news stand or in the magazine racks of a good bookstore like Barnes and Noble. This would be the best longer range source whereas the ASSRA Journal is the best (and probably only) source for 200 yard target shooting with our favorite single shots and all the information about all the current and historical single shot rifles and the tweaking of loads for them. Most shooters (but not all) are using smokeless powders here and the historical data on shooters and rifles of the past is unequaled. Again, sorry.

Premod70: Thanks for your kindness, I too am a Geezer, lol.
Long time shooter hunter and project tinker/builder as much as I can out of my house, and shop.

I'd love to do a video of not only events talking about what I have posted, but also to find hunter as well through the ASSRA to create video.

As you said, little to know media on shooting events, what ones I see say nothing about ASSRA, and NO HUNTING video's that I have seen as well.

Thanks oneatatime, for this clarification. I'll have to look online for said publication, as I live in the woods you see, Pooh and me, and we never get to a big town much any more. So if I want something in the now so to speak, I need to order it online, still cheaper than gas, not by much after you factor in the time frame the USPO takes to deliver things these days, but hey, sugar isn't 5 cents anymore and the pony express isn't operating either, which I think was faster.

I'm not sure if I'll get the current issue, as I just joined as I mentioned, when it came out, or if they make a guy wait until the next issue.

But those are the kinds of writing we newbies all need to see. It's hard to keep the drive up so to speak keeping everything current in an older sport. But young blood(Newbies)  with geezer guidance is the ticket I'd say.

Howdy, RBH.
I have 2 seasons under my belt with ASSRA.
The book "Loading and Shooting Traditional American Schuetzen Rifles A Beginner's Guide", by Randolph S Wright, was-by far-the very best guide to getting started in the game. Virtually anything you need to know to get started and be successful is in there. Here's some info I was able to copy when I searched the ASSRA Forum for "Wright Galleries".

To all Forum members
Please accept my apology for not being visible in recent months. Wright Galleries has been going through some changes and I'm working on getting back online.
The old website is no longer online. My old email is also gone.
Wright Galleries can be reached at:
email: wrights.galleries@gmail.com
I'll announce when I get a site reestablished.

As has been the case for some years, my books* are also available from:
blackpowderspg.com/
buffaloarms.com/
trackofthewolf.com/
or directly from me at: cell: 623-451-9427

Since a computer crash a couple of months ago, I have not been able to use my Amazon account so that outlet is not active at this time. They are a good place to do business but their support for seller accounts sucks.

I don't think you could do better than getting a copy of Randy Wright's book Loading and Shooting Traditional Schuetzen Rifles. After that there's no substitute for attending a match and watching and learning.
