A day to remember
Dec 7th, 2023 at 5:25pm
Print Post
80+ years ago today our country was brought to war by a brutal attack that more and more the numbers decrease with the knowledge or concern to know the suffering our country endured. To forget is to repeat, God bless America.

During my 33 years of teaching high school, on December 7th every year, each period began with a reminder of what occurred on that day followed by a full minute of silence. I don't know if I could do so today. I quit 20 years ago.

It’s a day for remembrance, unfortunately yesterday was generally ignored by media. My 10th grade grandson, who knows his history well, said it was also ignored at school.

It's always been among the heart-felt observances, having grown up in a military family with lots of vets to go alongside. I noticed the general dearth of coverage on the tv and the newspaper here is but a broadsheet for the openings of new wine bars and chamber of commerce 'projects'. However, I notice this morning, a single day later, the news media is far more willing to pelt us with the 'shocking' (ho-hum to me) revelation that 40 years ago John Lennon was murdered. Liberal news filters.

We try to make sure to fly our flag on any special date, and Dec. 7th is one of them. With almost all of our neighbors being young hipsters, and liberals, we look for any reason to fly Old Glory.
