This guy met his Waterloo late this afternoon. Hepburn is a Match B in .32/40 Remington Hepburn that someone butchered by cutting the barrel to 27” and lopping off the buttplate prongs.

That still is a nice rifle, doing something very nicely. How far was the shot, and what are you going to do with the pelt?

Around 75-80 yards. A close shot but with iron sights in shadow nothing is real easy. I missed him last weekend at 200 yards when I  underestimated the wind. Calling taxidermist today to see about a mount. Perhaps a hat.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Nicely done! The Match B Hepburn is my favorite! Yours is still a very nice rifle!

Very nice looking mount. The taxierdemist did a fine job,the faces often get messed up with a lesser skilled taxierdemist.

Turned and reduced.

A beautiful fox and an exceptional mount. If anyone has foxes to spare, we could use a few. The rabbits and squirrels have taken over and our local fox has disappeared.

I never shoot foxes because there are so few. I had the opportunity and decided to take one just to say I did because it was so nice. When I was younger they all had mange so we shot them but they were ugly. The taxidermist is very good. And very expensive.

I also have a 32-40 Hepburn built in a Creedmoor pattern from help from some folks here. What bullet are you shooting?

Which bullet to use in old Hepburns in .32-40 is a tough one to say from rifle to rifle. I have a Match B in .32-40 with a .327" groove diameter, and another with a .322" groove, so can't even shoot the same bullets in the two I own.

The match B I used on the fox and the two deer this hunting season is a 32/40 Remington cartridge. Its a .308 bullet 156 grain from an Accurate Mould. This rifle is perhaps my most accurate old single shot. Or maybe I lucked out on a load

That is a very nice fox mount. I always enjoy watching foxes when I see them out in the woods. They remind me of a dog based on their looks, but they behave more like a cat.
