M71 Mauser single shot 8.15x46R

In there same auction that fellow Aussie Spud bid on a Rolling block as shown elsewhere on her with a difficult screw, I bid on a mis-described M71 Single shot. The calibre listed was entirely unlikely so I figured what the heck.  After purchase and prior to shipping, the Auctioneer rang and was most distraught the calibre listed was incorrect and was fully prepared to offer money back. I was happy to proceed regardless as calibre was actually 8.15x46R (something I already have and load). Regretably  Grin, it came with a full set of sights an original mould and burden decaying tool.
 
This will go nicely with my similar M71 in 9.5x47R.

Very nice, I just returned yesterday from the wife’s obligatory vacation, 6 weeks in New Zealand and Australia. I was pleasantly surprised at the active hunting culture in both countries. God, I hate that 16 hour flight.

The tool is for decapping berdan primers but will post some pictures along with the mold. 

I have discovered that the extractor has been remade but will not close on a case rim and the action will not close on a case or a round. Still waiting for the only active gunsmith in my area to action the minor modification. 

Despite being a long time BP single shot rifle shooter, and involved with the firearms industry, I have the gun smithing skills of a 3 year old with crayons so will not attempt it myself.

For what it is worth my other M71 in 9.5x47R is a hoot to shoot and is competitive in our local 100m ring target shoot. 

I have about 3 months to get the 8.15 going for the next Ring target shoot so might have to bribe my gunsmith to get it done in time  Grin

If your chambering problem, is because of the rim being to thick or to large in diameter. If you can find 225 Winchester cases. That will fix it. They are about the right length and have a .050 x .470 rim but, 30/30 case head.

It appears to be the construction of the actual extractor itself. It has a very square shape that will not allow the bolt to close once a shell is under the extractor. I have tried original brass, RWS brass, Qual com brass and brass made up from all brands of 30/30 to no avail. It differs greatly in shape to the 9.5x47R extractor on my other rifle.
