Case capacity is so close that any .30-30 load will be fine.

Long ago (ca. 2005?) I experimented with a very early Savage 99 in .303. The only load in your ballpark was a 165 grain Ranch Dog cast of sweetened COWW with 28 grains of Varget.  My only note said it wasn't very accurate.   The bore in that rifle is only "fair-to-good".

All I can offer.

I've been messing about with .303 Savages for quite a while now. Ditto Phil's advice re: .30-30 data. Case capacities is so nearly identical as not to matter.

My go-to hunting load is with a custom 190 grain flat nose gas check, cast relatively soft at 10-12bhn, driven by 28.0 grains 3031. Chrono's at 2000fps out of a 24" barrel M54 Winchester .30-30, and 1900 fps out of a 20" Savage M1899 takedown barrel. Size the bullet to throat diameter and use a good lube and I get zero leading - with excellent accuracy. Soft alloy guarantees good expansion + venison in the freezer. Modern loading manuals indicate it to be a near max load so work up to it. I've used it for 40 years in a bunch of rifles with no visible pressure signs, but that's me, and I've never exceeded it.

I get similar excellent results by substituting a 180 RN bullet, but for hunting prefer the flat nose of the 190 over the RN of the 180.

"Target" loads, .303 Sav and .30-30, several bullets in the 170-190 weight range + 15 grains SR-4759 seems to be a universal sweet spot in my experience. (I continue experimenting with 4759 because I have a lifetime supply. Without that I would revert to 4227, but there's a slew of good powders for that application.)

Thanx guys, I appreciate the help. I played a little bit yesterday with a 170grGC .311” Accurate bullet cast @ 17Bhn. I started with 28/IMR4895/1640fps and ended with 30.5gr. for 1875fps from a 20” Savage 1899H. No loads were crimped. I am waiting on a Lee factory crimp die.

Shouldn't need to crimp. There's no tube magazine to induce bullet movement. I've never done so with any Savage lever gun.

MIGHT need to crimp IF recoil is heavy AND there is little tension from the neck on the bullet.  Crimping doesn't add to accuracy.

Thanx for the input. I do realize that crimping can hurt accuracy. These are 100 yd hunting loads and Im hoping crimping stabilizes velocity spread. The sharp edge on the metplat on the Accurate bullet is snagging the feed ramp when feeding from the magazine. A quick followup shot is asking for trouble.
