Primer & Powder prices.

Just getting back to this game after 2 years and for the heck of it, went on GunBroker to look at the current prices on primers & powder. I'm glad I was sitting down as I think my skinny legs would of not supported me. My heart rate went crazy and I started to sweat. I'm speechless. I couldn't believe it. Are they scalping like football tickets ? I'm going to the Allentown, Pa. Antique gun show Oct. 14th. Hopefully their prices will be alittle better. But will be taking alot more cash than I was.  Dale

Primer prices are running about $80-$90. I just paid $139 for  BR4's. Powder prices have been coming down some.

Gunbroker et al is probably the worst place to buy components.
Best if shopping online do the Midway, Grafs etc the usual suspects if your local big box stores don't have any.
But even at that a brick will cost you nearly what a case did 5 years ago. And powder prices will give you another case of the vapors...

Yes Ranch, was just looking and would never buy from GunBroker. It was just the sudden shock at the prices from 2 years ago. I'm sure to find something at the upcoming gun show. Plus won't have to pay hazardous shipping charges.  Dale.

I have found prices to be really high at local gun shows.

Yes, probably thank the store clerks who buy them from their store as soon as they came it and then sell them at gun shows for healthy profits.

I just walked out of a store in eastern washington state and while they had no large pistol or rifle  primer. Small rifle and pistol were available for about $60 a brick of 1000

My take on it is now days if you are going to shoot then you just have to pay the price. I buy them whenever wherever I find them for whatever price I have to pay. But I still have my limits...

I buy my powders from Powder Valley, and I buy it in 8 lb. jugs as the hazmat fee is the same for 8 lbs. as it is for one pound. Cost for almost any powder runs in the $40 range now. I buy my Swiss 1.5fg from BACO and in 20 lb. cases. Last case cost me $32 a lb.
I find primers and powder at our monthly collector show on occasion, and prices on powders run the same, but occasionally find someone selling out at much less. Primers at our shows run in the $60-$80 per 1000 range for most primers. I do see guys asking $100-$125, but nobody is buying from them.

Just for reference - Powder Valley has SOME primers in stock, at what seem to be the current market prices.

Gunbroker is nothing but scalpers, IMHO.

WOW, what a difference a few years makes, since I stopped shooting!!!

It's a good thing that I kept a good supply of primers. I've probably got 3 years supply of SR match primers, mostly Rem & Fed but, probably more than 5 years of assorted LR & LP primers. But, only a couple of years BSing powders. More than 20 years of jacketed powders. NO, they are not for sale but, what for my obituary Smiley

And to think, I thought Obama was bad  for primers and powder.

Well I just ordered 3000 primers (just in case) for a price that would have been 3 month's mortgage payments on the first house I bought:-(
