What Have I Here?

I have quite a few cast bullets from Schuetzenmeister's (Bob Zimmerman) estate that I am sorting through and cleaning the old lube from.  Most are 25, 32, 40 and 45 rifle bullets but this one is unknown.  '
The base band is .450 and it weighs ~ 435.2gr in 30-1.  It is 1.082" long.   There are 98 of them, but 53 are badly oxidized.  Before I try cleaning in muriatic acid, can anyone identify the use for these?

Thanks
Jack

That would make sense as Bob was a big muzzleloader.

Thanks

I think I will see if there is anyone here that might want to buy them before I post them on the muzzleloader forum.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Likely for the .44-77 SBN, or .44-100 Ballard Long-Range. Most of the early .44 rifle cartridges used a .451"-.52" bullet and in the 400-530 gr. weight range.
Originally they used a paper patch bullet around .446" with two wraps to fit the .451"-.452" bores, but of course grease groove bullets became larger to fit.
Both of my .44-77SBN, and my Ballard #7 in .44-100 use this size bullet.

I had the lyman mold and IIRC it had a front  driving band and the nose stepped down like a Kieth SWC.I don't think that's it but it could be a custom for the same application.

It looks much like the old Ideal 451112 bullet mold, which was adjustable and with 6 lube grooves dropped a 485 gr. bullet, but adjusted to 5 grooves it dropped a 430 gr. bullet.
I'd love to own the mold for this if it ever showed up miraculously!

I'd buy them, but you know how that song ends.  Then I would need a Whitworth to shoot them in, and they aren't cheap (if you can find one).
