Schuetzen position help

How are you guys holding german style schuetzen rifles without a palm rest? With my build I'm finding it difficult to get bone support and have the rifle high enough.  A picture would be awesome!

My guess Probably finger tips not palm or knuckles.

I have never used a palm rest - I use a more modern version of a Schuetzen rifle.

I balance the forearm on my extended two fingers under the forearm and extended thumb under the lever.

That provides a perfect weight balance on my rifle where there is equal weight in front and behind my hold.

I designed the amount of wood on my forearm so that I have the perfectly level elevation when I hold it that way so the barrel is perfectly horizontal.

If I have to shoot uphill or downhill I put a 1 inch thick board under my front or back foot to get my barrel aimed without putting tension on my hold by trying to hold it higher or lower.

If you note in the picture  the forearm is stepped down in the front to shoot off the benchrest whereas the thicker backside is designed for perfect elevation for my finger hold.

I shoot a lot of the "German" rifles, and find the best way is to shoot from your finger-tips.   The left fore-arm, wrist, fingers should be in a straight line, palm facing straight upward, thumb on the trigger guard.  Don't contort your body or try to reach your hip-bone with your elbow.  Just tuck your arm in against your ribs and stand up straight.  With the rifle held this way, all your right hand has to do is to operate the trigger.   I hold the trigger finger straight, and lay it alongside the trigger.   To fire, just allow the finger to relax and the rifle will fire.

I use other rifles with palm rests, but don't feel deprived without one.

I also shoot traditional German schuetzen rifles. These rifles have much lighter barrels, so the balance point much closer to the action. I shoot with my offhand palm up under the massive lever or just ahead of it depending on the rifle. Palm rests just don’t feel natural to me. I don’t shoot competitively other’s advice might be better.

A dedicated German rifle offhand shooter would have a buttock implant added to his/her hip so that the elbow could rest on it. If you are considering having it done, make sure they locate the implant on the correct side. Right hand shooter, left hip. Left had shooter, right hip. Okay so you're going to look like you have three buttocks. Looks are only skin deep.

Reminds me of that joke where Bob had two buttholes. I'll save that for another thread.

Oh what the hell....

Stanley died in a fire and his body was burned pretty badly.

The morgue needed someone to identify the body, so they sent for his two best friends, Cooter and Gomer.

The three men had always done everything together.

Cooter arrived first, and when the mortician pulled back the sheet,

Cooter said, 'Yup, his face is burned up pretty bad. You better roll him over.'

The mortician rolled him over and Cooter said, 'Nope, ain't Stanley .'

The mortician thought this was rather strange.

So he brought Gomer in to confirm the identity of the body.

Gomer looked at the body and said, 'Yup, he's pretty well burnt up.

Roll him over.'

The mortician rolled him over and Gomer said, 'No, it ain't Stanley '

The mortician asked, 'How can you tell?'

Gomer said, 'Well, Stanley had two assholes.'

'What? He had two assholes?' asked the mortician.

'Yup, we never seen 'em, but everybody used to say:

'There's Stanley with them two assholes.'

I would suggest trying different holds to see what works for you. I tried the fingers hold but my arms don’t appear to be long enough for that to work, or it could be because a couple of my fingers are shorter than they originally were and it makes me lop sided? And it’s also probably not helped by nerve damage in my shoulder from a car accident years ago, I get a twitch in the muscle if I stand in one position too long.....anyway, everyone is different so just see what works.
