Remember it well, did good service until I got a 410 Stevens bolt action when I was 10 and an octagon barrel Winchester pump 22 at 12. I would throw that 22 across the handle bars of my bike and head for the woods, can you imagine a kid doing that now.

Yamoon I have a tube fed Stevens 410 bolt action shotgun in my safe.
Belongs to my brother and Dad had bought it for him when he was still in
elementary school.
And now my brother is going to hand it down to great grandson and who will now be going into the 3rd. grade.

Well Mike, back when I was 12 or 13 I threw the .22 over the handle bars or in the winter carried on the bareback Horse to keep warn in the winter and went to one room School House with it and the teacher said put it in the closet. A couple of us went to the open dump and shot rats after school or went hunting.
Things have changed since the early 50's.
Bought my first .43 Spanish roller through the NRA back pages of their book when I was 14 or 15 for $15.00

My brother and I begged our dad for a BB gun, but he was totally against it. He said kids think a BB gun isn't dangerous because it's not a "real gun", and end up hurting someone, or shooting out windows.
So he bought us a .22LR instead. That was great except we lived in the city, so could only shoot it when we went out to friends, or family outside town, or on a camping trip. But he was probably right in his thinking.

I think he was right on his thinking.
My step brother and I each had one and it started BB gun wars in the woods with other friends. I ended up putting one on his front head and he still has that bump there at age 85.

I still have my first BB gun and it still works. Not sure what model it is but it's a Daisy. I would guess that it was given to me at around 5 or 6 years old. I had quite a few more better BB guns as I got older, but none of those survived. I remember spending most days after school outside with my BB gun, although we lived in town we had a small acreage with woods across the street from us. It was a different time then, nowadays the neighbors would probably frown on seeing a kid runaround the neighborhood with a BB gun.

I got around dad. Just waited until I was in my 20's and bought a Benjamin pellet rifle, Sheridan pellet pistol, another old trombone pump Benjamin, and a few years ago a Gamo Whisper pellet rifle for in town varmint control.

I remember the late 40s and 50s well, my best friend who lived a block away from 2nd grade on was Darwin Hensley, he went on to carve some beautiful gun stocks.

I started with a Daisy, don't remember which model but all the guys had one.
Bought my first 22 when I was about 14 from the local hardware store. No adults present other than the hardware guy.
Things have changed a bit.
