I Thought I Said NO MORE Ballards!

I just couldn't resist this at the gun show today.  Nice old #2? with a cast action in .22 LR.  All numbers match even the butt plate.  The bore is excellent.  The rear sight is not an original. It is a Marbles.  I have a short tang sight that will fit once I free up the plug screws. The stocks need a bit of work with the forend having a large crack being held by tape inside and there is a small chunk of wood missing at the bottom of the butt plate.

I was expecting a poor bore but it is in excellent condition.  I would have passed on it if the bore was bad. I am counting on the fact that each Ballard you buy adds 10 years to your life!

No screw through the breech block. Is it a #3 Jack?

Nice little plinker young man!  Smiley

If it is originally a 22, it would be a number 3. The early No 3's were not furrowed on top of the receivers as on the later No 3 rifles. It would have a early serial number. Nifty rifle, and very fortunate it has a good bore, and ten more years to enjoy it.

if it an unbalanced load, the mule may take a curved set to it's pace. just even out the load with a high wall or so and it'll all come out all right. No need to supply ammo for that one. Unless you'd like to. I will put the mule into a taxi and send it back if you put your credit card in the rifle case.

I had the chamber in my low wall .22short recut ('bout two minutes at his dinner table). This because shorts cost more than LR. Well it really works with high-speed rounds and particularlly with the light bullets in some of 'em. My rifle didn't get the memo about the 'wrong' rifling. Dunno how any of that would pan out in yours, but there it is. Smiley

Do you have a set of left hand drill bits Jack? I bought a set years ago, and they work great for extracting screws. They usually catch at some point and extract themselves.

No left hand bits.  I do have a left hand pipe wrench.  Great for removing barrels. Smiley. I will have to look into that.  I am still working on heat and ATF/acetone.  Looks like a set on eBay is $15.

I think that's where I bought my set about a decade or more ago?

I understand, Jack. In these times of high inflation where one can by spark plugs on an installment plan. I understand. I'm sure we can arrange something.

A Ballard #7 Long-Range is a grail gun! They don't show up often, and when they do they get big bucks, even if they're the early non engraved A-1. And of they're the engraved A-1 even more money!

I was referring to the photo of the little girl, not Hillary (though the latest comments are certainly justified for the latter).
