I got this years ago.  It might help.  I made a cut-out so I could spray paint chickens on paper.

I've been doing that for practice and grouping for 40 years, Just get a sheet of masonite and go at it. If you go to the local printer and ask for some roll ends (usually about 1-200 feet of newsprint), you're good to go with a black spray can!

I lay a full size actual chicken (and the other critters too) on scrap cardboard when down range painting. Spray paint the outline. Takes no time

Back home use the pattern to make a thin plywood stencil, with a stencil any piece of scrap material makes a target. Depending on the range layout & configuration may staple them up or spray paint cardboard boxes. Box becomes its own target stand & you can use it multiple times painting two (or 3 ) sides..  Even have black or white critters.

Thing about silhouette different ranges have different backgrounds berms etc.  Painted cardboard target more like what you are going to see in actual competition than printed black on white store bought targets,

Here’s one scaled down for indoor Rimfire. Grandson is now 6’2 & shooting offhand, good shot too.

I buy 18" wide rolls of butcher paper that come in 250 ft. and 500 ft. rolls. Makes cheap targets for many years of practice with various bullseye shapes on it.

I get 35 inch wide "contractor" paper at Lowes. I pull it across our range target backings, which it covers top to bottom, staple the corners and slice don the side with a sharp knife. For scope use I can put 9 1 inch stick on bullseyes and for iron sights 3 inch stick on bulls. I traced our 100 meter steel animals on paper, blacked them, and had copies made at office depot. Misses are obvious on the brown paper.
