I'm late to this thread but, I can't help responding to this one.
In the mid 90's, a good friend, that was a high end collector and shooter, invited me over to get my advice on how to repair a gun part. While there he asked if I would like to shoot his newly acquired 8 bore double. I said no, that I didn't care much for recoil! He said that he had been shooting it with reduced load and insisted I shot it so, I said ok.
He set up a 26 oz coffee can to aim at. Pictured is the result. The load was 250 gr 1F and a 1080 gr bullet!!!!
He took a big chance, as it was a engraved double that I think he payed ~$5000 for. My first thought after pulling the trigger, was to get away from it asap and that would have included dropping it right there. But, he was lucky, in that I didn't.
I wasn't very happy at the time but, it did result in this trophy
