30 caliber stop ring bullet mystery

At sometime, somewhere, in my past I picked up a box that had written on it 8.15x46 stop ring bullets. Ran across it the other day and decided to measure the bullets. Well, they had a .309-.310 shank, a .322 stop ring, a narrow .311 band, and a .301-.302 nose. Anyone shooting anything like that? And in what?

Sounds like just the thing for many 8.15x46R rifles.

Chris, all the ones I've had were between .316 and .321 in groove diameter. These bullets would have rattled down the barrels.

If they fit the cartridge case neck, they'll probably shoot OK.   I have seen groove diameters from .314 to .325.

I think the best use of them would be in a 32-40 Remington Hepburn with its 30 caliber barrel. Anyone shooting one and would like to try them? Available for postage.

I agree that they would work in many 8.15x46R rifles.  It's the funnel-type throat that makes them work.  Absolutely contrary to old-time American cast bullet thinking.

I have a German Martini with .308 bore and .314 groove, requires original cases.  311403 works great.

And an Aydt that works with cut down .30-30 cases, .316 groove. Might work in either.

What is the weight and length of these stop ring bullets?
Perhaps they are actually intended for 30 cal ???
Like my 308281 Lyman. Intended for the 30 US Krag.
It is 1.22" long, flat nose, base at 0.312" diameter,
stop ring 0.3235" diameter and 0.300" at base of ogive.
Weight is 232 grains in my 9+1 COWW/lino
I am going to try them in my 32-40 Remington 8 twist rifle
along with a couple of other LONG 30 cal bullets
to compare to the 311299, 308284 and 311334 bullets

I hope to soon be trying out those bullets from oneatatime
in my Ruger No 1, Obermeyer target barrel, along with other
stop ring bullets I have-308281 and 311256, along with the 308403 Pope bullet.
Torpedoman, the bullets oneatatime sent me will be too small for the 8.15x46 rifle. They are of a size for 30 caliber rifles.
Will report on this thread when I got some results
