	It has been my quest for quite a while to add a .25-20SS to my rack of Remington #2 sporting rifles. This one was reworked, relined and chambered for .25-20SS - the bore is perfect. Being a shooter, not a collector of fine art, the bore is what's important to me. Fortunately, I have a decent stash of brass and bullets. More brass and dies will be coming soon. I can't wait to get it to the range 😀

	Great choice of caliber. “The .25 Caliber Rifle” (as it was described in Shooting and Fishing) was a major advance in blackpowder cartridge technology way back when. Previously, such ”small bores” were strictly for cranks, who were content to do more cleaning than shooting as they fired their experimental shots. The .25-20SS was a practical hunting cartridge that allowed more shooting than cleaning for the average shooter. When the necks crack or the mouths are damaged after (hopefully) many reloads, you can shorten the case lengths to .32 Long Rifle length. (If you’re lucky, you may even get something that can be used in a .32 Extra Long.) When those mouths crack, further shortening to .32 Long or even .32 Short is possible. Waste not, want not. You will need the Ideal 299 series of heeled and hollow-base moulds, but patient scrounging got them for me.

I already make .32 Ballard Extra Long from it, as well as .32 long rimfire. For this rifle, I'll do my utmost to preserve the brass for as long as possible.

	If there was a good supplier of reasonably priced brass available it would sure make the older 25-20SS rifles more desirable to me. I guess that applies to many other calibers as well!!

	Being anxious to try out my new .25-20SS, I stopped at the range on the way home from work today. Fortunately, I have some loaded ammunition I got a while back along with more brass. The wind was gusting bad, it blew my target stand down 3 or 4 times. I really just wanted to see if it was on paper. Its a bit high at 40 yards, but it groups well, even with just barrel sights and my aging eyes. I think it will be a fine shooter I'm pleased with this start.

	Awesome! I have a couple of Stevens in 25-20 SS, one is relined. Fun cartridge to shoot.

	I slugged the relined bore today. Groove size is .257", twist is 1-13". I have several cast bullets in the 60 - 71gr range. The Arsenal 71gr mold is a gas check type. Ive been shooting it successfully without a gas check in my .25 Stevens. I think it will be a good start for the .25-2SS.

	With the 1-13 twist, how heavy a bullet can I go and still stabilize well? I'd be up for trying billets heavier than the 71 grain Arsenal mold billets I have. Thanks.

	In my 13 twist Stevens I usually shoot the little 65 gr 257420 but it also likes a 77 grain bullet from a Shoyen-Peterson mould.

	86 grain cast bullets will work fine.

	I'm thinking 85-100gr would be fun to try. Using 60-71gr bullets would probably be pretty similar to the .25 Stevens centerfire loads I use in another #2 rifle. I expect the .25-20SS to be a step up in power and range. I need to look around for some to try out. Thanks guys.

	Since I recently also joined the club, Thought I'd show you a pic of my 044 1/2 model 45. Picked it up very affordably (Cheap), the fore-end is split and was described as an obsolete, unattainable caliber and the hammer would not cock. From the pics, it looked like a dst rifle with some parts missing, figured I'd send it off to Gail to fix. Turns out it's a single trigger and a chip was glued back into the buttstock where it meets the receiver with so much glue that it bound the mainspring. It's in 25-21 and I'm hoping for brass and dies at some time. Bore looks great, trigger is quite usable,

	Interesting rifle Rebel. It appears to have a full octagon barrel. (scarce) I’m assuming that the frame is about 1” wide rather than 1 1/8”? Is the front of the frame stamped 044 1/2 or 45? Also is it stamped EX? What is most curious is the lower tang and single trigger with what appears to be an adjustment screw behind the trigger, along with a plain dst lever. According to 1907 catalog prices,a full octagon barrel would have been $2.00 extra, .25-21 $2.00 extra, buttstock with Swiss plate $3.00 extra.

	looks like a Pope I posted pics of the sight before, folks think it's a Distant Thunder repop. interesting rifle Rebel. It appears to have a full octagon barrel. The screw seems to effect trigger pull, but it's not a SST. The rifle is in a safe I can't get to right now, here's the best pic of the sight. It was quite stuck, but loosened up with some tri-flow.
