A Burgeoning Interest in the Husqvarna No 33 (Read 2970 times)

	I am a Stevens guy to the core however I have always had an eye on rolling blocks. Last night while crusing the gun auction and sale sites I stumbled on a Husqvarna No 33 in 8x57R/360 and became a bit smitten. I don't see these rifles talked about too around here and perhaps this forum doesn't quite fit their their niche, but if anyone would like to share some information I would appreciate leaning more about these rifles and the cartridge. Many thanks in advance for the education!

	The Husqvarna 33 has spurred several lengthy conversations here in the past, and several fellas have them here. Mine is in 9.5x47R which is almost identical to .38-55, just slightly shorter, and uses a .376" bullet. I really love Rolling Blocks, and the Type 33A is as good as any Remington, and a lot sleeker, and cooler receiver contours. 	My full stock just has a plain old Marbles tang sight. There is a little trick in mounting them as there is built-in cast off in the tangs.

Now I need to look at mine again? Never noticed the cast off, so I mounted mine centered on the top tang, and seems to be OK. I did notice the top tang wasn't perfectly shaped, and I used a shim under the left side of the base to get it perfectly upright.

	It is so slight that you might not even notice it. I certainly didn't until my super precise gunsmith who mounted the sight pointed it out. I guess most of the Swedes are right handed;-) Also note that they were made from 1877 until 1912 although I think most dealers would treat them as antiques (no list of serial numbers/years). Here's all the Huskys (You need to *Login* or *Register* to view media files and links). Note all the possible calibers (except for Vall's). They seldom come up for sale these days so if you see one you should grab it.

	Actually my cartridge is listed on the site among the Studsare Nr33 cartridges. "6x36R / 6.5x42R / 8x42R / 8x57R/360 / 9x47R / 9.3x57R/360 / 9.5x47R / 10x47R / 10,5x47R"

	I originally had my doubts about that one because the most common 9.5x47R is a bottlenecked target cartridge and a shortened 38-55 would not have worked in that chamber, but I have just discovered that in the 1880s when the nomenclature "9.5x47R" was first in use there were at least 8 varieties of it. I have ordered a book that should give more complete information about these varieties and pinpoint the origin of Vall's.

	My original search result was Cartridges of the World, but I didn't trust that source as it's been sketchy often. My chamber looks unmessed with, and the bottleneck version COTW showed is a larger base and rim diameter, so it couldn't be rechambered to what mine is. So I'm pretty confident that my straight wall chamber is original to this gun.
