Thought I'd managed to snag a Shiloh 45-70 in the model I've wanted off GB last night. Been watching for a one but the price usually shoots up over 3K quickly, was watching this one and and decided to throw a bid in the mix and ended up winning it for a very decent price (I thought). Got to looking and wondering why the barrel was stamped 2/10 and 2 7/8s so called them this morning to verify caliber and it is 45-120, guess it got rechambered at some point. I don't want to mess with that or try to find the brass, I've got one in 45-100, that's plenty. Was going to just cancel the order and they asked me what I would be willing to give for it so subtracted what a rebarrel would cost and told them. Waiting to hear back now if they accept or not. If not then I'll cancel the order and keep looking.

Could also set the barrel back enough to rechamber to .45-70 ot .45-90 and save funds. Might consider a counter offer if they give one.

3 years ago I received a rolling block from a well known company advertised as 45-70 and it was actually 45-90. There response was "boy you sure are lucky" They did not want to do anything about it. I hope your results are better.

They offered a full refund but then asked if I wanted to make an offer on it or they were just going to put it back up for sale so I made a counter but haven't heard nothing yet. We'll see. Can't set the barrel back because of the tulip shape and the lever spring and forearm all would be out of whack!

If you can get it at a reduced price, then get ahold of Shiloh for the rebarrel, and then you'll be all set.

I almost bid on that myself it's back on broker but they didn't change the caliber in the description. The only way to fix it would be a rebarrel at shiloh which is 600.00 plus and that's the old price or send it to Jessie and get it rebored to a .50-70

Yeap, I'm glad I caught it before they shipped it, I have no use for a 120 and unless I could of got it cheap enough to warrant a rebarrel I didn't want to mess with it. Could of got it an shop around for someone who wanted to swap barrels I guess but who knows how long it would set waiting on finding someone wanting a 120 and good luck finding the brass for it right now!!!

1Hawkeye has the least expensive option: send to JES Reboring for conversion to 50-70. 50-70 is a ball compared to 45->70.

Yes jes gets 300.00 for a rebore 275 if you just send the barreled action. A shiloh in .50-70 is my grail quest. 1874 model 30" std weight barreled #3 pattern. Just like some of the hide hunters of old. I thought about a .50-90 but that's a bit much for east coast gong matches.

I looked at the new GB add for rifle, they did remove 45-70 and just have it as .45 2 1/10 2 7/8s, still kind of deceiving if you ask me.

Probably one of those that mistakenly think shooting 45-70 in it is like shooting 38 in a 357

Years ago at the nation's gun show the Taylor's & Co gunsmith tried to convince me that was possible. Boy did he get educated.
