Delta Toolmaker Grinder

Bought this unseen,  150 miles away and figured why not.  Seller, 67 yrs old and I from the time I pulled up to when I left was 2 hours.  Pulled it apart and loaded it into a Chevy Spark.  He knew what he was doing.  Didn't offer to help with unloading ☹️.

Nice find. I have the exact same one. Did it come with the original precision balanced motor? Its important for a smooth grind.

Congrats!  I don’t use my grinder much, but when I need it, I’m sure glad it’s sitting in my shop.  But it wouldn’t fit in your chevy, weighs 3200 pounds.

Original Factory Motor and Pulleys.  3 Phase so will need a Buzz Box.  Seller said it came out of a School, Small Town Rural America.  Tomorrow is my day off, sorta, so the Base and Tables are headed to the shop.

n.r.davis, if you are going to run a 3ph motor on 1ph, consider getting a variable frequency inverter drive. It will chop up what comes in, reassemble it into 3ph, variable frequency so you can vary the rpm of your motor within reason. On a grinder they make it a delight, a change of rpm will often improve the finish if you are having trouble. I have had good luck with Teco Westinghouse models but am not up on current offerings.

My Delta toolmaker is 115v, so I didn't have to deal with a VFD etc. But when I restored my 1950 Walker Turner drill press about 10 years ago, I did. It was originally 115v too. But I put a 3/4hp, 230v, 3ph motor on it along with a TECO VFD. Really more of a restomod than a restoration  Grin. But it works great. The infinite speed control is a great upgrade.
