I went to Walmart this morning for a few things and remembered curdog's comment about using 0W-20 synthetic motor oil. So being one who likes to try new things, I wandered over and picked up a quart of the store brand Super Tech 0W-20. Back at home I had some fired 7mm Spanish Mauser cases to size. I cleaned the die first, then wiped on a very thin coat of 0W-20, then sized them. It worked great. Sizing was smooth and easy. Granted, this was not a heavy duty sizing job. For that, I have Imperial on the shelf. But for routine sizing, it is a fine alternative. One $6.50 quart is more than a lifetime supply.

How are you fellows removing the motor oil from the cases?

That's what I like about the Hornady One Shot. Doesn't need to be wiped off after sizing.

If you think that's completely degreased (de-oiled?), all right. Makes me wonder, if it wipes off, whether it's any good as a motor lubricant. Oil is supposed to be tenacious to hold on at high speed and temperature. Thanks for the answer. If it's workin', it's workin'.

I used RCBS case lube for many years, then when Imperial sizing die wax came out I used it.  Worked great until I forgot to put the lid on the can while buffing something on a muslin wheel. Grit got in the wax and when I sized some 45-70 cases they were scratched like crazy. Didn't really hurt anything but they sure didn't look very good.  From then on I polished in a safe place. Then I used Vaseline for a while which wasn't very good and then bullet lube. 

Never really cared for the RCBS lube as it was sticky and gooey and hard to clean up.   

Joes right about grit in lube. I use Permatex lanolin no grit hand cleaner for high finish wood cleaning. Idiot neighbor heard about it borrowed my jug. Returned it full of grit, had to throw the stuff away.

Grit and lube don’t mix.
