New batch of targets

Print Post
Got a new batch of steel targets in last week and began painting them today.  We've been a little creative with Fusion 360.  There will be a safari if the ice age ever ends...  wait a minute, that's the next set of steels we're going to do.

I like those monkey targets, they remind me of the “Barrel of Monkeys” toys! Or as the French would call them, “Baril de Singes”

I'm making a swinging rack like the "know your limits" targets only instead of circles they'll be the monkeys.

Thanks, from a logistic point of view, most of these will be set up so they the offer a four MOA target center of mass but to aim at something like the giraffe or the Kudu it will be deceiving. The ostrich and the baboon at most - they'll probably only offer a two MOA view... Wink
The targets are cut from 3/16" Hardox 450 and they'll be mounted to a t-post via a coil spring.  The caliber will be limited to 22rf.
If my interest evolves, there may be larger targets from heavier plate and a vintage single shot game develop.

Will you be putting a 2nd hole in them to hang them? With one hole it will be tough to keep them hanging straight.

Vall,
The one hole is CG by mass, they do hang straight - it is an advantage of modeling with these cad programs.
Wind may cause them to swing a little but that becomes a useful excuse for misses.

Here's the order before the safari targets, some prehistorics...  They worked out to be real close to target surface area of the normal Silhouettes (R,P,T,C) just proportioned differently.

Thanks Greg! I envisioned them hanging from a chain and spinning if they were hit off center.

The dinosaurs are difficult to center on with irons, we're going to give the safari animals a go this weekend-

Cool! When can I come over to your place to play.  It would only be about a two day drive. Roll Eyes  I'd love to try my rebarreled and restocked low wall Winder musket with an 8X Lyman Targetspot Jr.  It should be perfect for stalking dinosaurs.   Wink

Froggie,
Bring it on!  It's just a little be-bop - I did it last March for a match in TN.   Grin Grin
I'm trying to finish a 1902 Webley in 22lr for the safari game, with my backup gun being a 1897 WR - both before the season opens on these.  The Dino's will probably be somewhere between the 340b Mauser, one of the High Walls or a Ballard.

We are working on a new terrain purchase  Wink not that there's any problem with my current place(s).  The close property only allows a couple hundred yards, the other place I can get 1000 yds. but it's a 75 mile one way trip with the majority of it gravel or two track roads...

Cool! I'll bring my 1902 Webley. It's in 450-400 3 1/4 MNE. Will that work? I could use the 300 grain Barnes if you think the 400 grain might be overkill;-)
