Intro to Schuetzen

Hello everyone!

At our local Fond du Lac Wi gun show this weekend we had 2,100 people walk through on Saturday. The show had more than a few Schuetzen rifles on the tables, and it occurred to me that its too bad we did not have a Schuetzen display table there. I want to put something together to promote the sport of Schuetzen shooting. I will have a few Schuetzen rifles and accessories such as molds and breech seaters, and a slide show on a laptop, with a flyer promoting the sport.  If anyone has photos they would like to share for the slide show or flyer please feel free to send them. I will also hand out applications for ASSRA and ISSA membership and any other club that wants to send material. The purpose is to promote the sport, not any particular club, but any club that wants to participate is welcome.
Please send whatever other ideas you have. If our members did this at their local shows we might be able to attract enough new members to stabilize our membership or even add to it. Laurie Gapko and some others will be at the NRA Annual meeting, (I hope). If we can get someone at the Tulsa Gun show that would be great.

Over 20 years ago I set up an ASSRA display at several gun shows in Central VA.  I had a local sign maker recreate the old square red patch design as a two foot square sign (white instead of black to save me money) to stand on an easel on the table.  Then-editor John Campbell sent me a bunch of fairly recent past issues of the journal, and I took a rifle and rest bags along with my loading tools and set up a show and tell.  Lots of fun and got a few new members each time.  Smiley

One neat side benefit, an elderly gentleman saw my Ideal #5 micrometer powder measure in the display and offered to sell me a #6 (Duplex) measure he had at home.  Cheesy

I might suggest using some recent issues of the Journal on the table with some application forms. Don't give them away, $1 each and they won't end up in a trash barrel. If you need some Hi-res images give me a call Tom 276 783 8037 I can't send them over this site as they are too big. You can go to Fed EX Office and get posters of photos on foam board and they aren't too expensive and are an Eye catcher. One 4 feet high would be an eye catcher.

Thanks for your generous offer Tom!

At this point my plan is to bring two rifles, a High wall and a BSA Int. along with some basic accessories such as a breech seater, bullet mold, and barrel sled.
I have a one-page handout called "The Joy of Schuetzen" that I can give away, and I plan on setting up a laptop with a slide show of various Schuetzen events, along with a copy of Randy Wright's book about the American Schuetzenfest and my own back issues of the ASSRA Journal for people to look at.  I will be soliciting some of the shooters in our area to man the table, do not expect that to be a problem.
That's the plan at this point, but nothing is set in stone.
I would also like to put out some membership applications to ASSRA and ISSA.
I am open to suggestions, so keep those cards and letters coming!
Thanks!

I might also be able to post it if I actually can do it while also having some real clarity.
