Chambering a Stevens 044 1/2 in 38 Special/.357

I have an incoming Stevens 0441/2 chambered in 25-20 SS and was lucky enough to procure some brass off the classifieds in this forum.  However, I have been thinking about getting it rebarrelled by CPA into something a bit more accessible.  And given I have a ton of 38 Special and about a half-ton of 357 Magnum brass (not to mention about a ton and a half of lead bullets) sitting around, these cartridges caught my attention.  Anyone have any experience in chambering the 044 1/2 in either of these cartridges?  I would be interested in hearing your thoughts.  I would not be trying to "magnumize" the 044 1/2 in any way with the latter, but I am curiuos as to how the smaller Stevens action would stand up to the cartridge.  Many thanks

I have a Ruger #3 that was in a wildcat that was "kinda" a 25/22 Remington Jet set up for breech seating.the brass I got with it was failing so I had Hornady make me a form die set.Well they did a poor job and brass didn't fit at all.
in a fit of anger I rechambered it to 256 Winchester magnum. It's a very accurate rifle.in the middle of load development the custom DST took a dump so it's sitting till I get my shop set back up to fix it.
Prior to that .5" groups with  a Barnett 115g was where it was getting to  at 100 yards.
Fixed ammo accuracy  to approximately pressure of 25-20 wcf was also decent.
just an option
it will require a setback of course.

Even the 044-1/2 ought to be strong enough for the .357, but I'd opt for .38 Special to begin with.  Key factor in either case is get the chamber reamed with a proper rifle throat.

At 77 I'm saying that I've done my last build, but there's a centerfire 44 action looking at me begging to be barrelled in .38.  Like you I have truckloads of brass and bullets in the locker.

Rugers run of CHP 357 rifles didn't initially shoot well.A buddy  at Ruger said when they sent them back the used a 38 AMU reamer to cut a new throat.
The two  I have had that wonderful throat and I was able to used fixed ammo with 200- 250  grain cast bullets into the throat and get about 1100 and very good accuracy.
