Mine will probably be handed down to my great grandson as just being a per-say a family heirloom from me.

There once was a girl named Providence
She came with a certain provenance
Her performance well proven
In competition the boys were kept movin
“If you’re not up to the task, don’t bother to ask,
For sale I am not, for a trophy that’s bought.
But for the right kind of man, with time on his hand,
I’ve proven his success will be on top.”

Well, that's certainly not the rifle for me then. I want one with PROVIDENCE.

I don't depend on divine intervention. Mine need "provenance".

I prefer Denver over Providence. More great gun history there!

This is not a new thing. In the Biblical book of Proverbs, Solomon says, "Worthless, worthless, says the buyer. And he then goes his way boasting".
Solomon probably had just been to knife, sword and spear show when he uttered that line.

Had a fellow come into the shop with his grandfather’s S&W Triple-Lock .44 Special. He told us that gramps had it with him when he headed north during the Alaskan Gold Rush.

Said he would like to swap it for a S&W M&P 9mm, and when my boss hesitated out of sheer astonishment, this guy pulled a heavy gold ring (also gramps!) off his finger, slammed it on the counter and exclaimed he would toss that in as boot!

It was sort of strange to watch a fellow stab himself in the back…..

Cbashooter, nothing weak about your valuation method.  Beyond that it comes down to an individuals level of motivation to the trade.

Offers made politely, I don’t find offensive, but I’ve never understood “beat down” tactics leading up to an offer. Those antic’s just make me laugh.

I am confident that I have done my best trading by being personable and polite and I’m most apt to be generous with those using that same tact.

One of the best laugh-invoking responses with more than a bit of truth I've ever read.  Very well done, kootne!

And then they bring the great bargain they bought to the gunsmith and complain that his fee for polishing said turd into the diamond they wanted it to be is too high.

I actually enjoyed what Kootne had to say.
What is this conversation actually all about?
Most folks here already know what to shy away from so what is it that I am actually missing ?

CBA,

the difference between a law suit and a barbecue is whether said ox got gored was yours or mine...
