This is a unmarked tool I got in a trade 25+ years ago.  Spring loaded and hands down the most comfortable re/de capper I've ever used.  I wish someone would make a run of these using replaceable shell holders.

I wish somebody would make those too! It looks a lot like one of the designs attributed to Schoyen, and also close to the OA Bremer tool Tom posted.

Barry Darr was making them on a limited basis.
He also made the patterns to have them investment cast but unfortunately the cost was just not feasible.
I have seen those patterns and I believe his son David now has them.
It also the one that he used while he was here and living with our family.
To me it was one of if not the best ever made in regards to ease of use.
Also they were highly polished and very smooth working jewels.

Tom,
Frankford Arsenal actually made and sold those as just the re-decapper tool in a smaller box. I have a boxed tool that's for .30-06, and another tool only for .45ACP.

I received the following information and first two photos from Jerry Cleave today. The third photo I have on the wall of my shop. It's Jesse Smiley with his Stevens-Pope chambered in 33-40 or 33-47 (not sure which one). You can see the re-decapper that Barry made for Jesse on the bench.

From Jerry Cleave;
This re-decapper is one made by Barry Darr for Jesse Smiley. Note that it is # 2. Jesse was the maker of Javelina lube, later developing the schuetzen version that so many of us use. Barry and Jesse, along with Chuck Brockway, Bo Clerke, and Tom Trevor, were the organizers of The Inland Empire Schuetzen Verein club active in Southern California from the late 1970's to the 1990's.
My brother Charles Cleave continued making Javelina lube after Jesse's death, and this tool was among my brother's equipment after his passing.

I have this seater and it’s marked : R. Pope, I have not heard of him before. Also don’t know what rifle manufacturer it’s made for. Anyone know of R. Pope?

Jerry, in one of the all-too-few chats I had @ Etna Green with Barry, the subject of his breech seater design came up.  Unfortunately, I never got to really get detailed information about it.  I had the impression he had actually made several, but I never knew just how many.  Do you have any idea of production numbers?  As with much of Barry’s work, this design showed a great mix of established design with modern touches.  Man, I sure do miss Barry!

Richard, I have the same tool that's to the lower right of your "Pope" tool. Mine looks like a Schoyen style, and has the same sheet metal piece that rests against your hand when it's used.
Any idea who made that tool you have below the Pope:R?

Froggie,

I have no idea about the production numbers, but I do recall talking with Barry about his re-decapper one evening after practice at the Modesto Rifle Club. The details of that conversation escape me now.

Barry, John Louis, and I would stay up way too late the night before the MRC shuetzen match talking about all kinds of things. Those were great times!
