I have used the German three lever de-cappers for years. I have made inserts for shotgun de-cappers to use them for rifle cartridges and they are the best thing made for removing Berdan primers.

Oneatatime, every group has to have an oddball!  Thanks for adding that one for the sake of completeness though.  Wink We tend to discuss the stuff we use and are familiar with, but that style and similar ones (mostly from Europe) show up on flea bay fairly often.  It's a shame they don't work with Boxer primers as well... it's a handy size and seems like it would be pretty user friendly.

Back to my earlier post describing the possibility of putting together a condensation of this thread, would any of you have posted here object to me "harvesting" images and/or quotes from your posts (with proper acknowledgement) if I get a round tuit and attack this task for real?

Here's another built by Colin Mullins of Tennessee:

And here's Ideal's re-decapper tool. Top one in .22-3000 and lower in .32-40 These could be bench mounted, or just held in your hand to use:

The three tools at bottom center in my display case are Ballard re-decapper tools. The decapping pin is under a protective cap on the round handle, and you struck the case rim to pop primers out.

You're welcome to use any pictures or descriptions I posted here Charlie.

Vall, how does the Mullins unit reprime the case, or does it?
Benice, that boxed example of a Pope is a sweetheart!
Cbashooter thanks for the permission. I’ve also gotten another by PM.  How about the rest of you guys?  Any objections to my using your pix (with full attribution of course!)?

Charlie it only deprimes. But the business card in with this tool shows an image of a very similar tool that has a shell holder on one side, and a case in it. It appears he made them either as two tools, or a separate setup to change it to a priming tool.

I have made inserts for shotgun de-cappers to use them for rifle cartridges and they are the best thing made for removing Berdan primers.

Remington made a de-recapper for Berdan-primed shotgun shells that they also adapted to at least larger rifle cartridges.  If I remember correctly, the tools were nutcracker-like with one handle nickle plated and the rest of the tool gold-painted.
