I have this seater and it’s marked : R. Pope, I have not heard of him before. Also don’t know what rifle manufacturer it’s made for. Anyone know of R. Pope?

Richard, I have the same tool that's to the lower right of your "Pope" tool. Mine looks like a Schoyen style, and has the same sheet metal piece that rests against your hand when it's used.
Any idea who made that tool you have below the Pope:R?

Vall, I don’t think it has any markings on it. I sorta assume it’s a Schoyen clone with the added  flipped up lip.

Here's one that's been attributed to Bo Clerke.  I have no idea how many he may have made............

Same conclusion I had Richard. The sheet metal piece puzzled me for a long time until I actually grasped the tool as I would to use it. Then it was one of those "duh" moments when I realized what the maker was doing with it.

Seeing the Bo Clerke tool, I'm beginning to wonder whether it would be possible to make a head to go on one of Jake Simmons' tools to convert it so it would take some kind of interchangeable shell holders.   That collar on Mr Clerke's tool seems to fulfill that function.   Huh
I'm thinking if I make an adaptor, add a longer priming stem inside... bada bing, bada boom, it's convertible!  Roll Eyes
Does anyone see any difficulty with that? Undecided

Most of the repro Chick or Pope re-decappers have a screw on head, so they could have the head replaced by a screw on base that accepted common shell holders. But the issue might be travel of the priming rods, and whether they'd reach the case to prime it?
The other issue would be the way those tools decap, and the new base for shell holders would need the same lip to capture the rim for depriming.
If you shortened the body to ensure the priming rod reached, then need to make a lip on the new base to capture the rims. Not sure how the Clerke tool catches the rim to deprime, but seems it's doable. Might be easier to make new tools that work with the shell holders like a Meacham does vs. reworking existing tools.

Not a Chick or Pope tool, but I just received this Remington 3rd model tool this morning! My good friend JerryH pointed me towards it, and I purchased it just this week.

For whatever reason the vast majority of Remington Re-decappers are for shotgun cartridges, but occasionally one shows up in a rifle cartridge. This one is marked "40 B" for the .40 caliber Ballard cartridges. It fits my .40-63 and my .40-85 Everlasting cases, and once you figure out how it works it pops the boxer primers right out! A Remington tool for a Ballard cartridge is even tougher to find.
These are also almost always bare steel, but this one appears to be nickeled. I see some minor flaking, but overall it's in great shape.

Nice one Vall! I also was able to pick one up a couple years ago, but it’s just marked .40.

This one is marked in each "cavity" separately. So 40 in the cavity to decap, and B in the cavity to prime.

Might not be marked the same as mine since yours appears to have just the priming part, and not decapping also? So maybe they didn't have room to mark both without the two areas for cases?
Have you tried a case in it to see which .40 fits the cut?

Mine does appear to just seat the primer. And there are no other caliber markings. Haven’t checked it with a cartridge yet.

The patent was held by both Martines Chick and Harvey McMurchy. McMurchy was an exhibition shooter for Hunter Arms Co. (L.C. Smith). The patent was issued in Sept. 1903, oddly Stevens showed it in their catalog in March 1903 which was before the pat. was issued. It was listed as available in any caliber and I have seen them ranging from the .22 WRF to .45-70. Very few were marked with the patent date by Stevens. The Schoyen/Peterson closely resembles the Chick re-decapper and what the arrangement on the use of the Patent by both Stevens and S/P is unknown to me. I would guess (note guess) that Pope saw the Chick tool when he was shooting at Shell Mound in 1901 and showed it to the people at Stevens.
