Yes! There are plenty, and they are all more difficult and time consuming.

Dip them one at a time in melted lube and let them "drip dry". Have fun.

The "messy" comment certainly applies if using a Star lubrisizer.  I used to pan lube them but lately I've had good success using a SAECO lubrisizer after several attempts with the Star.  I expect an RCBS would work as well.  But pan lubing is still the fastest - just requires a lot more lube to fill the pan & having to heat & pour the lube

For small batches I find the SAECO is a better solution for me since I enjoy the lubing & reloading process & time is not a concern.

The classic "lube pump" is the quickest, best, neatest way to lube tapered bullets.  It requires, of course, an ad hoc die for any given bullet, but is undoubtedly the tool to use for the job.

I dip them, then run through a sizer (oversize by .001 or .002) to strip off the lube.  Sizer doesn't touch the bullet and strips off ALMOST all the lube.

I pan lube and remove the bullets by pushing them out of the cake after freezing them for a half hour or so and popping the cake out of the tray. Replace empty cake back in the tray, insert fresh bullets, re-melt lube, repeat. Works as well with tapered bullets as with non-tapered. I think a lot of guys do this.

I've yet to meet a lube pump that isn't messy. Probably my misfortune in never using one with a die/chamber precisely configured to the bullet.

The more I read here, the more I discover I don’t know!  One thing Charlie Dell told me that stuck in my mind was that to lube tapered bullets without muss or fuss, I virtually had to have a Pope style lube pump with a bullet insert precisely reamed for that specific bullet. Charlie’s version of the Pope tool was considerably larger than the original, but the concept was the same.

In practice, I have the pump and a sorted box of as-cast bullets on the bench.  I lube the bullet freshly as I load it, pick it up with my Willis Gregory breech seater, and insert it.  I then use my Simmons re- and decapper to prime the case I just fired, drop in a charge from my Ideal #5 M powder measure, and sometimes add a cork or cardboard wad.  Insert prepped case and shoot a 25 every time (in my dreams!  Roll Eyes )

When I’m shooting my bench gun, I charge a hundred or more cases at a time in advance, but other than that, the procedure remains the same.

To bring it all back to the theme of the thread, my tapered Schuetzen bullets always get lubed with a lube pump… I do pan lube with Emmert’s (as taught to me by Dale53) for some BP bullets such as Minie Balls for N-SSA events, but that’s a discussion for another forum.  Wink

I havent tried this but I think you can lube tapered bullets in a lubrisizer if you use a custom sizing die that is cut to match the profile of your bullet AND you have a bottom punch that matches the contour of your bullet nose AND you run the bullets in upside down. I was on the verge of trying it and then decided it was better to just order a custom mold from Accurate Molds which copies my tapered Saeco mold except it is not tapered. This answer  avoids the question you asked but does solve the problem . Withy 30/1 alloy you will not get a lot of extra resistance breech seating.
