I hope someone here can help me.  I need a case trimmer that will handle the 50-90 Sharps case. I have an RCBS trim pro and the older Forster but neither can handle the 50-90 case .
Anyone no of a solution for my problem ?

I just bought a Forster classic trimmer, requires one of the collets that are NOT included in the kit.  Check their site

The trimmer head on the Wilson I use most is only a 1/2" so I dug out a Lyman Universal I picked up somewhere - didn't think it would open up far enough but it does.  The cutter on my Lyman is carbide and I don't think that was original so I'm not sure if the original would have worked either... The current setup works though.

I recently had to get set up to trim .50-140-3.25 cases for my Sharps, and I did a WTB ad at a few locations to get an obsolete Lyman drill press trimmer. Had to buy a pilot separately, and Lyman stopped offering those also, but found a new .512" collet on Ebay.
The Lyman drill press trimmer is fantastic! Not only does the trimming well, but does it super fast. Just set up the case holder on the drill press table, and chuck the trimmer in the chuck. Then set the stop on the drill press and I can trim a case in seconds. Just have to keep light pressure on the drill press head, so you don't flex the stop and force it farther than the stop.

I use a Lyman universal trimmer for .50-70 and .50-95. It should work fine for .50-90 too.

RCBS made a file trim die at one time. You might find one on FleaBay or GB.

Have you considered one of cheap Harbor Freight miniature chop saws and set up a stop for the correct length and should be fast and uniform
Just a thought.

I use one all the time, but they're worthless for small amounts of trimming, or very precise trimming. I use it to rough cut cases, and then final trim with a good trimmer.

I concur with Vall. The HF chop saw is a great tool, but it can't match the precision of a good trimmer. That being said, I've been able to improve the consistency of my chop saw cuts by making a simple jig to cut them.  I've actually made 7 or 8 of these for different diameter case mouths.  With some deburring, it could work in a pinch if a trimmer were not available.

Check out the short video I made about it.

Pretty slick Steve!

My jig is made from scrap hardwood that I use my router to cut a channel into. So I'm holding my cases the opposite direction, and rims butt up to my block when laid in the channel. I adjust the block to the depth of the cut, and shim under the end for the angle I want to cut. Then once it's set up I cut as you do by going partway through, then turning it 180 to cut the other half.

There is something to be said for spacing off rim end like you are doing. Your final cut length may be more consistent. Spacing off the mouth like I do requires all the cases to start at the same length, If not, the cut length will vary.  But since I use a trimmer for the final length it doesn't really matter. It just shows there are multiple ways to approach the situation  Smiley

I agree Steve. Since this is just a rough cut accuracy is secondary to getting them done quick and easy.

Try the Forster.
Option "B" is buying a LEE for each cartridge.
