I had a good show and here is some others that made it enjoyable. Lee Shaver and wife, Dan, Bruce Nelson, Greg Tryon, John Noe  , Jason Brewer and Rodney behind the camera.

Had a great time, didn't come home completely broke  Wink

It was Mr. Noe's first trip to the big show and his head is still spinning  Grin  I feel we have him addicted to the single shot game and with his machining skills there's a good chance he'll contribute to the eye candy we all look at and for.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Tulsa is still on my bucket list to get to! Hopefully in the near future when I can still walk that many miles of a show!

Why wasn’t I born rich instead of so darn handsome?  Lips Sealed

It’s a two day trip from Central VA to Tulsa by car, and I can’t afford a Lear Jet, so like Vall, it’s on my bucket list, but more and more looking less and less like I’ll ever get there.  Sad

Sounds like you had a pretty good show, Rodney. I hope you saved those two levers we talked about in the PM right before you left.  BTW, what do you have these days in the way of a catalog or website?  I can’t seem to find anything current.   Huh

BTW, I first fell in love with your stuff many years ago while visiting Ken Hurst.  He had either a Redfield or Farrow action (IIRC) he had gotten assembled and ready to engrave and finish building and I was fascinated.  Recently our buddy moodyholler showed me one of your Ballard receivers he was working on and my passion was reignited.  Smiley

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Green Frog,
I managed to end up with the Farrow action that you mentioned with Ken Hurst.  I finished it up last year with a 30-30 Wesson barrel on it.  Here it is all done.

As spiffy as it gets. I really like the checkering pattern, and they hold/hang like a Ballard. A beautiful rifle, and extremely well done.

That must be it.  Ken hadn’t started engraving when I saw it his place, but even in the white and without wood or barrel I could see a lot of potential. I told Ken it looked like the love child between a Ballard and a Stevens 44 1/2!  I’m glad it finished so beautifully.

It’s two days’ drive from Arizona, too, but it is well worth the time and effort.  Tulsa is a nice city, easy to get around in.  The show is gigantic; a statistical universe where you have a 100% chance of finding something of interest.  Plus, of course, a ton of stuff to see that often isn’t even found in books.

Somebody had COL Whelen’s Ideal Armory loading set, with all the accessories and documentation.  (I didn’t even know he had an Ideal Armory set, but there it was, in all its Japanned cast-iron glory.)  More Ballards, Sharps and Winchester SSs than you could shake a stick at.  I probably walked 20 miles over the two days.  Hiking in the outdoors tires me out rather quickly, but hiking at gun shows is no problem.  I finished up tired, sore and happy, happy, happy.

I didn’t realize until too late that a VIP Badge is available so you can go in Friday as well as Saturday and Sunday.  With the extra day, you might have a chance of seeing the “whole” show.  As it is, people still have their tables covered Saturday morning, and are packing up and leaving Sunday, and it takes a solid 8 hours to walk the whole show, so it’s impossible to see everything.

The only downside is the snowstorm I always seem to encounter on the 40 when I go home.  I was glad to see the Michigan winter driving techniques I learned in my youth pop right back in play when the car starts skidding around.  Not to mention the adrenaline.

It’s kinda like riding a bicycle… you never really forget!  Speaking of which, with 8 hours of walking I’d probably need a bike or a wheelchair.  I used to think nothing of walking all day at a gun show, and I don’t think very much of it now!  Undecided

I guess I need to start thinking of heading to the Baltimore Show in the Spring… I haven’t been there for years, but it was always one of the better shows on the Right Coast.   Cool

I wonder whether I can make it all the way to Etna Green in ‘23(?)  Roll Eyes

Froggie

PS  I saw one of those nicely boxed Armory sets many years ago. Something every serious collector needs!  Wink

Had to miss this one, actually missed the last two years, but went for about 15 years before that! Hope to make the April, 23 show! Always enjoy Tony’s table of fine guns and Ron Peterson’s tables! Seems I alway manage to pick up something. Found an old Ballard for my collection in 2019 from a guy from California. It was a number #8, Union Hill. Someone had put what looked like a construction grade 2x4 stock on it and crudely carved to resemble a Ballard stock. I remembered a Union Hill stock set that I had bought from Gary Quinlan about 5 years earlier, turned out it was a perfect match! I bargained  on it from Saturday morning to Sunday afternoon before we came together on a price.
I bought a gorgeous Ballard #10 Junior there about 10 years ago from a gentleman from Iowa. It has a beautiful stock on it unlike any I’ve ever seen before. Always something at Tulsa that will interest you—- and me!

Those friday badges are not available to the general public, you have to have a dealer purchase one for you.
