Ah, yes; enlargement confirms the "hammer" is the edge of his boot.  I really like his hat.

Looks like a Swiss martini, no tang sight. The photo appears to be printed in Germany.

Sure looks like a Swiss rifle to me, no tang sight and the heavy wrist action that was very popular with the Swiss
