Picked up a nice old sight last week. I do not believe the tubular base belongs to the actual sight but is nice to have regardless.

If the base had been threaded on the outside, I'd have guessed the sight had been adapted to a target rifle that had lost its "lollipop".  Perhaps that was still somehow the case.

Those old sights are often missing from many European target rifles that were confiscated during the war. Neat to find one and still in working condition. I always wonder how many were found in drawers later and tossed?

Nice sight. They were used mostly on Zimmerstutzen rifles.  They were also used on German percussion target rifles before being converted to Hawnspanners.  Not sure about my spelling.  Undecided
