Cody Ballard info

I have just purchased a Cody Ballard in 45-110 and am trying to get any information on the background details of these guns. For instance barrel manufacturer, year manufactured, etc. I also notice that some of the barrels on gun listed for sale have the caliber marked on the barrel with a black powder identifier. The one I am purchasing does not. Any help would be appreciated.

I would contact Wyoming Armory in Cody Wyoming. Some of the employees with Ballard still work there and might be able to help you. As for barrel manufacture, most were marked on the bottom of the barrel under the forearm. D would designate Douglas and so on. If they are of some help, noting here might help others seeking information. I have heard conflicting reports on the Ballard rifle company after the purchase and move to Michigan. You might try to contact them there.st of luck in your quest.  Krag

Thank you for the info. I will give them a call. I also was corrected in that this gun is marked as others, I just couldn’t see it in pictures.  Still trying to pull together info on history, production numbers, etc.

Snuffy, If you can backtrail the rifle to the original purchaser they may have a copy of the order form/build sheet. A lot of information will be on that sheet.
Under the forearm should be stamped ser.# and an initial. D= Douglas, B=Badger (most common), K=Kieger, 7C= made in house. There are surely some other brands as some supplied a blank and others would specify a specific maker/caliber/twist.

You can't make good decisions without good information.

Thanks. I talked with the broker, apparently no paperwork from original owners estate.  Gun hasn’t arrived yet but when it does I will be checking out the barrel for maker stamps, thanks again.

Snuffy, when you go to take the forearm off, be careful that after you remove the screw, that you slide it forward before pulling it off the barrel. There are two pins coming out of the receiver that go into the forearm and they can be tight. You don't want to crack the forearm by lifting straight up.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

I was told by a former employee that on their .22 Badger barrels there is no code under the forearm to indicate they're a Badger.
I have a Schoyen style #6 Cody Ballard in .22LR and no marking on the barrel.
