Remington Gallery Tang Sight

Last week I saw this sight for sale. I thought it looked very much like the rare Remington gallery sight. I studied the photos closely and it sure looked the same as the high quality reproduction of it that Ken Womack used to sell. I have one of Kenn's and compared it. It looked the same except where the staff stop was located on the base. After much deliberation, I took a chance on it and it arrived today.

I immediately placed it on a Remington #2 sporting rifle, but the staff angle was wrong. I then I got looking real close at the base. Apparently somewhere back in the mists of time, a talented gunsmith had made and soldered on a tiny piece to change the staff angle for a different rifle. I carefully disassembled the sight, unsoldered and removed the little piece. To my great relief, the original staff angle was restored. I did indeed find a rare Remington gallery sight 😀
