I have this itch to do a gun in 22-15-60 but have reservations about it. Talked with Gayle at CPA and she said they did one 11 years ago for a gent in Ohio. She thinks he passed away, if so would anyone one here have at gun? She said they did it using a .224 rather than the original .228 barrel. She thought he used 22 Maynard XL brass, I would probably go the Rocky Mountain direction. I also have a call in to BRC and Clay will be getting back to me.
I would appreciate any thought on doing this. The good and bad comments are welcome.
Thank, Bob

For what it's worth: Pac-Nor makes a .228" barrel, 8" or 10" twist.

I have a Stevens 44 in .22-15-60 with a nice bore, but I have only fired it a few times with original UMC brass because the extractor needs to be replaced or welded up.
Stevens used a 1-12 twist and a .226 diameter groove, at least that is what Stevens listed in their catalogs. I think without looking the Ideal mold for the standard load was 22636.
I think if I were to build a .22-15-60 I would use a .224 barrel.

I have an 044-1/2 in .22-15-60 SS. The chamber is much too long to use .22XLCF shells in. Unless you luck into some originals, RMC and the other lathe-turned shells are the only possibilities.
The rifle has the Buckhorn and blade barrel sights, but even so, it hasn’t (so far) showed the accuracy I’ve gotten from my relined 44 in .22 WCF, with the same sights. It’s also very easy to overload with smokeless powders, and even Triple 7. (Some of this problem is no doubt due to the fact that there are almost no tested loads for this caliber). Even a slight pressure increase sticks those long shells in the chamber, beyond the capabilities of the extractor; the only recourse to be driven out with a cleaning rod. I’ll probably stick to black powder in the future.
I lucked out and found both the Ideal 22636 and the hollow-point version, and have a Winchester mould for the 45-gr .22 WCF bullet for “light” loads. Like all the old offerings, it’s an interesting caliber to play with, but it does have its challenges.

I had one in a 44 1/2 for a while. I got brass from RMC and used a light load of Unique with some cast bullets I acquired from someone here or over at Castboolits.com.
It was pretty accurate for all the drawbacks

Well, after reading here, talking with others and my own apprehension this thought is going to the back burner. Maybe some day I will do a second barrel on some gun in this caliber. Thanks for everyones thoughts.
