Schneider was another California gunsmith. He can be found in the book California Gunsmiths 1846-1900, by Lawrence P Shelton. The rifle pictured has a Schneider buttstock grafted onto a Bremer stock. the rifle has Bremers triggers.  I recently borrowed the rifle from my son so I can shoot it in our local matches.

Ah, once again you're too fast for me.  Is the graft at the wrist?  And that sure looks like a Bremer buttplate.

It is your old gun, Tony.   Smiley

Bill, the buttstock is grafted on at the wrist. The butt plate looks like a Ballard #6. No marks on the butt plate.

Tell us about your old gun, Tony.  What's the history on it?

Bremer was one of the finest gunsmiths in the US back in the day. Certainly not as well known as some of the big names, but everything he touched was just a wonderful looking firearm. We see more Bremer rifles out West, since he was in San Francisco, but unfortunately he wasn't as prolific a builder, so don't see nearly as many as I wish we'd see!
I just love the looks of his style of guns, and his triggers are fantastic! I'd never heard of Schneider, so not familiar with, nor seen any of his guns? I knew Larry Shelton well, but never got a copy of his great book. He always set up at the Big Reno Show, selling his books, and a lot of muzzleloading rifles from California too.

Going by pictures in the book I'm thinking Schneider.
Maybe Tony knows.

all I remember about the gun is it  came from an estate in the bay area. I remember taking the bottom stock screw out and the butt stock was in two pieces ! scared the hell out of me. such a perfect fit that it is invisible if you didn't know it was there
